Two weeks ago I started getting messages that I had to check the color cartridge. A couple of days later I got the message to align printer cartridges over and over again. That has been going on since then every now as then. Today I got the message that the wrong color cartridge was installed.
How can I remedy this problem without having to go out and buy a new cartridge?
Thank You, Ed Laprade

You have closed all the doors by not selecting the option to buy a new cartridge.
Actually, HP doesn't suggest a refilled or recycled cartridge.
However, i would suggest you these steps.
1.Remove & Clean the cartridges manually
2.Close the access door without the cartridges.
3.Check the message popping up
4.If its asking for the right cartridge, put the black first and then close the door.
5.Now, it will ask for the left cartridge ie., Color.
6.Open the door and put the color cartridge and close the door.
7.Now it may ask for the alignment, press enter to align the cartridges.
Please let me know the result.....:)

You might try a Partial Reset of the unit to see if that too helps.
HP PSC 700 series:
Press and hold Cancel and the Left Arrow while plugging in the power cord.
While still holding the buttons down, plug the power cord back in. Release the buttons after the all-in-one begins to initialize.
After RESET displays and the printer goes back to a ready state, the reset is complete.
Try a print job to see if this step resolved the issue.

i don't need color that often, hardly at all in fact but occasionally family members forget to select 'black' and as the color gets used up i get 'stuck' without a color cartirdge right at the wrong time and can't print anything even though there is lots of ink in the black cartridge.
thanking you in advance.
