device conflict

trying to use HP3100 with some DOS programs ie: Payroll and accounting software

Get message "print.err.conflict Windows and 'DOS' program" where I am supposed to select which is to take control. Selecting either one will cause message
"printer not ready - retry or quit"and will either continue to do this or boot me out of the DOS program.

i have confirmed that the DOS program is set to HP laserjet printing selection. I have turned off the power to the printer to reset memory. I have quit the HP Jet suite program

What else? I can send messages received if this helps solve but not in this forum as they exceed the allowable limit

Re: device conflict

Does the printer work okay for any other programs?

What OS are you running? Win95, 98, Me, NT, 2000?

When you create a new printer, you are asked whether you print to DOS programs. Did you select that option? If not, you might try to install a new printer driver and do that.

If your DOS program uses generic text, select that driver instead of the HP driver. See if you can print then.
