HP has a service note for this issue. Both the scanner and the formatter need to be replaced. Even if the unit is out of warranty, if you bring it to an authorized service provider they will repair it for you at no cost. Just tell the provider you know hp has a service note to cover the repair. If they give you a hard time call hp customer care.

I have an HP m1522nf printer which lately gives me an error #5 and while I am checking the net for solutions for this type of errors I saw your post in the HP community forums, and I was so happy because I read that this type of error has a service note from HP since my out of warranty .
I send my printer for HP Agency in Jordan and I told them that it has a service note but thy replied me that it will cost about 300$ which it too much and they asked me if there is anything proof that HP has a service not for this kind of issue , and here why I am writing for you.
Would you please help me and tell me how I can get an official thing (via HP website or via email) tells that this issue has service note.
Or at least you can tell me how to start my navigation about it.
Thanks for considering my situation.

Bill, I called the number you provided this morning. HP Support person in the Hardware Dept. in Costa Rico claimed there was no service note on this problem and that he had confirmed this with someone "higher up." When I asked for a number to inquire about the price of necessary fix (replacement of the scanner assembly), he gave me (800) 538-8787, which is not in service.
My interest was purely academic. This is the third HP All-in-One printer in a row that has failed within 2 or 3 years. I had a used Cannon earlier that remained operational for the better part of a decade. I will neither repair this lemon nor replace it with another HP. I am moving on to another manufacturer.

Addendum to the prior message: HP Support person, at the same number and location, said Recall Service Advisory #CO19388865 expired 9/30/11. At the local service provider she indicated, the person answering the phone said he was unfamiliar with the M1522nf, then, when pushed, looked up the price of a replacement scanner assembly: $162. Again, I wouldn't spend another dime on this product.

Por lo que veo
la unica forma de reparar este error es con el reemplazo de la escaner completo?
No hay otra forma?
Sorry, but most of us only know English on this forum.
If I understand your question then the answer is no. The only way to fix this error is to replace the scanner. If you contact HP they may be able to do it for you for free.

Please take some time to read the comments in the thread before posting.
You can only resolve a Scanner Error 5 by replacing the scanner assembly. If you dont know what that is or do not have access to the steps steps then you are not qualified to complete the repair. At that point you need to replace the printer and move on.

I called HP about this Service Advisory to get a new card. No good, they said. I missed the deadline. So, I got a rebuild Formatter card for $100. I popped the formater card in and now it prints fine, but I get this Scanner Error 5 code. When I turn it on and see the Scanner error 5, I hit the "Wrench or Tool Icon", then OK, and then I print. I have not tried to scan, but assume it won't work. I will now have to get a new Scanner card, I guess.
I might be thinking twice before buying another HP printer. I contacted them about their Formatter board that went bad because they used the wrong kind of solder. What difference should it make if I jumped the hoop before or after their arbitrary date.
Some time back, I got similar treatment from Samsung for a bad TV. I used to buy all Samsung TV's, CD's, etc. I have bought three TV since that time but not a single Samsung. These big companies can really annoy me.

This may have been true back in 2011. It is not true now. HP will not stand by this piece of junk even though the problem was caused by them using the wrong solder. I spoke with more than one person at HP.
