I tried to set up this printer on a laptop running Windows 64-bit using the installation CD but it failed. So, I added the printer manually and used the CD for Windows to find the driver. Works fine printing but I cannot scan.
I downloaded the s/w at HP site (tried both HP LaserJet M1522 MFP Series Full Solution AM-EMEA1 and HP LaserJet M1522 MFP Series Full Solution AP). It goes through, asks fo printer Ip and then finds it, continues with installation but gets stuck trying to communicate and fails. Windows firewall is turned off and I removed my internet security s/w from starting up (rebooted and made sure it was not running). I have no idea what can be the issue. I also updated the printer firmware.
Thanks for your help. I have attahced screen shots in png format.

Please confirm how the printer is connected to your PC, through network or USB?
If through USB, please try to install using standard length of USB cable (preferably HP usb cable).
If through network, you may try a one to one connection between the PC and printer.

Printer is connected to router (192.168.1.50). It is not using USB cable. Laptop I am trying to install the s/w on is on same subnet. I have no problem printing but can't scan.
When I (try to) install the s/w, it asks how the printer is connected and I select "Network" and specify the IP address. The s/w correctlyfinds the printer. That's why I don't understand ifI can find the printer using its IP why does it say it can't connect later on during install.
I googled this issue and it seems to be a known issue; quite a few others have the exact same problem.
