HP Print and Scan Doctor fails to indicate Fix Scanning option

Upon using the diagnostic utility HPPSdr. exe, only the select an action "Fix Printing" shows up and not the "Fix Scanning" option. Our printer is the LaserJet 3050 running under Windows Vista32. The scanning driver is HP imaging 4.0.4.0. There have been numerous problems with this scanning software/driver package which have been well illustrated on here. An update is sorely needed. All that HP customers really expect when we buy a product is that we get the functionality that we paid for and that we get support for that equipment for a reasonable length of time, say 5-7 years. In the case of the 3050, the scanning has never worked right since day 1 because the scans are too light with signatures and time stamps showing up poorly. The communication software Toolbox FX is needed to use the scan button on the machine, and since there are so many problems with this package with respect to resource usage and connectivity, we can't use it and we don't get the walk up use of the scan button that we paid for originally. As Microsoft has updated the Windows OS, HP has failed to keep pace and we lose functionality of our equipment over time.  Now we get a diagnostic utility that doesn't even see the scanning portion of this MFP. Surely the wide base of installation of this product could justify the small expense of some engineering time for an update. Going forward, HP needs to decide if it's gong to be an engineering company that is focused on making products that really work in the environments that its customers use them, or a marketing company that is only concerned with selling the next thing without respect to customer retention.

Re: HP Print and Scan Doctor fails to indicate Fix Scanning option

You have not provided any information about actual error or issue seen while operating or using this product with HP software.  Please provide details about the errors specific to a function being used with this product (Print, Scan, Copy etc.)

Kindly confirm if you have any other scanner or All in one device connected & installed with your PC, if yes, provide information about the other product also.

Please mark the post that solves your problem as Accepted Solution
Click the Kudos star if this was helpful. Thank You!

Hi,

      Thank you for your response.

Re: the Print and Scan Doctor, there is no error message, it just doesn't "see" the scanner in the 3050, only the "Fix Printing" tile shows up. See the gif attachment below. This is the example from here of what the dialog box should look like. What i'm getting is only the left side tile.

Re: the Scanning contrast issue, this has been well reported on here. I can just get a good scan out of the machine by pushing the contrast setting all the way out to 100%. This only works if the scanning is installed using the full product CD install. The pnp driver posted on the product page wont work because apparently it doesn't install some necessary files in the location  C:\Program Files\Hp\Digital Imaging\bin  which affect the contrast light/dark defaults. See  http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/Multifunction-and-All-in-One/Laserjet-3052-3055-Scan-too-light/td-p/104...  I struggled with this one for a long time as signatures wouldn't scan into the tiff or png files unless they were in very dark ink.

Re: the ToolboxFx communication issues, this has also been well documented on here. It just isn't worth it, really, to run this thing, but please can we have our scan button back!? Error message here, see:  http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/Multifunction-and-All-in-One/Toolbox-FX-Update-By-Popular-Demand/m-p/23...   http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Install-Setup/HP-ToolboxFX-known-issues/td-p/348896

No other scanner is installed. Equipment is hp dv8408us laptop running Vista32 home premium. The 3050 is connected via USB with a new cable. Printing is fine.

The latest Print and Scan Doctor, version 3.0 dated 9/20/2012 still fails to indicate the scanning function of the LaserJet 3050 MFP. OS is Windows Vista 32 running on a HP dv8408us laptop. Re: the print driver utility, this version is even worse than the last one in that it shows the PCL5 UPD as being connected to the laptop via Network despite my having just printed a test page successfully from the printer connected via USB. The PCL6 UPD is shown as being connected via USB and it also does print successfully. Re: the scanning driver utility, no scanning function has ever been indicated on this MFP by any of the diagnostic tools offered by HP.

Re: HP Print and Scan Doctor fails to indicate Fix Scanning option

I started this thread going on 6 months ago in order to document the poor support with respect to software and drivers that HP is providing for it's equipment. I just ran the version 3.0 HPPSdr.exe dated 11-05-2012 (a later date now with the same version # ??) and it again fails to indicate the scanning portion of the LaserJet 3050 MFP. Only the PCL6 UPD print driver shows up after running the scan. The PCL5 UPD is shown as installed, but won't show as connected, even though I can print from it. No scanning function is ever indicated. This is just one illustration, there have been other problems that many users have had with the package for this machine since it was introduced. Issues re: the ToolboxFX, scan quality, and USB connectivity have not been addressed. It should be a simple matter for HP to post some software and drivers that are tested and actually work in the environments that we use them. Does HP engineering staff monitor these forums?  Why is it that feedback is provided by users of these forums and it is hit or miss whether these functional problems get solved?

LaserJet 3050 MFP

Windows Vista32 Home Premium

HP dv8408us laptop

Connection is via USB.

Re: HP Print and Scan Doctor fails to indicate Fix Scanning option

Hi Everyone,

I just ran this utility again, in it's latest version - the HPPSdr.exe version 3.1 . What it says is "The following products are visible from your computer." "Click the one you want to work with, then click 'Next'"

Our machine is the LaserJet 3050 running under Windows Vista32 on a HP Pavilion dv8408us laptop.

I am running the HP PCL 5 UPD driver and the HP PCL 6 UPD driver concurrently as well as the HP Scanning driver 4.0.4.0  The majority of the time, I use the PCL 5 driver, as the PCL 6 one causes the printer to pause between each page, or at best every 3rd page. I only use the PCL 6 when I want to print pictures or details. The best example is in Google maps. Printing is better and more detailed with the PCL 6 driver.

The only products indicated on the dialog box for the utilty are:

WebEx Document Loader, and

HP Universal Printing PCL 5

The PCL 6  UPD driver and the Scanning driver are not shown .

I'd like to recover the use of the scan button on the machine so I can walk up and scan documents to pdf on the desktop or to email without using the ToolBoxFX package, which has never worked.

How can we get the use of our scan button back?
