HP Officejet G55xi

I installed this officejet on a windows 2000
computer with the new 2000drivers. The printer works great and the copy works if you use the button on the officejet. If you try to scan using the button on the officejet it says options not set. If you try to scan or copy using the desktop software it says no scanner found. Am I missing software or something?
Thanks Debbie

Re: HP Officejet G55xi

The "scanner not found" message basically says that you've got a communications problem somewhere. What will probably need to happen is an uninstall / reinstall of the software. You may want to use the forced uninstaller which is available for download at
If that still does not help, check out this document about Windows 2000 Plug and Play issues:
especially the "items to check before starting."
The reason that it says "options not set" from the front panel is because you haven't set the scan to options in the software yet, and the scanner just doesn't know what programs it is allowed to scan into. You need to open the OfficeJet G Series Director, then click on Settings, and then Scan To Settings. It will bring up another window where you can select programs to scan to from all the available programs. Once you change (or not change) any of these options, click on the "Set" button to save them, and the button on the front panel should work then.
