HP DESKJET 460

The Toolbox Utility cannot be accessed in spite of numerous reloads of the software.

The printer works but the cartridge alignment facility cannot be invoked.

Current error messages are that: the instruction at "0x00ef14b0 referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be written; the instruction at 0x00eex14b0 .. as above.

After nearly 6 months of correspondence with HP support no solution or sensible suggestions for resolving the problem has been provided.

Is there any one out there who can help ?

Many thanks to Jasdev Singh for the prompt reply about the latest available drivers (31 May 06) for the HPDJ 460.

Alas the error messages persist !

Apparently the problem may result in a "buffer overspill".

My IBM ThinkPad X24 has XP SP2 installed and all available Windows updates.

Any further ideas on resolving ?

Hi John,

What is the connection type? You need to disable the firewall setting or any antivirus setting if you have any. May be that creating the problem.

Apologies for not responding sooner. To be honest I got so fed up with the whole problem and with HP's total inability to deal with the issue that I decided to use the printer without the Toolbox facility.

Notwithstanding the above, I gave the reloads another try last week and utilised your suggestion of turning off my firewalll (McAfee) before trying the download.

Much to my surprise, the toolbox is now (apparently) working and having had the product for 9 months I can finally align the print cartridges and see how much ink remains.

Congratulations on your idea. Perhaps HP might like to take note and incorporate your suggestion into their "standard" instructions.

Hi,

I understand that you were unable to open the Tool Box for the Deskjet 460 printer.

The issue is cause as the Firewall installed in the computer stop the Tool Box to load.

Please refer the steps in the below webpage to resolve the issue:

Please perform the steps on the webpage and then disable the firewall (MacAfee or Zone Alarm) and try to open the Tool Box.

If the issue persist, download the Scrubber Utility to uninstall the printer software.

Follow the steps as provided on the first webpage under the heading "Step 4 : Uninstall / Reinstall Printer drivers "


It should resolve the issue.

If the issue persist, please update the Firewall software that you are using.

You can upgrade the following McAfee module upgrades by contacting your ISP:

Security Center: V 7.1 (Build 7.1.134)
VirusScan: V 11.1 (Build 11.1.124)
Personal Firewall: V 8.1 (Build 8.1.123)
Privacy Service: V 9.1 (Build 9.1.130)

Many thanks for the update. It is interesting to note that the HP "help" instructions are reasonably new to their website and of course now give a step-by-step means of dealing with the malfunctioning HP Deskjet Toolbox.

If you can believe the grief I went through earlier this year with HP and their total inability to deal with the issue at that time, it is gratifying to note that they finally posted the required solution.

Hopefully, any future buyers of what is in fact an excellent printer will be spared the pain.

Yes, John,

I understand that.

Actually I am a support technician of HP Deskjet printers and we had isolated the issue we were looking for this solution from some time from our Advanced Support Group, since it involves 3rd party firewall software and their credibility comes under stake, so there was this delay.
