CM 1312nfi won't scan; scan software won't download

Am ripping my hair out after spending most of yesterday trying to get the CM 1312nfi to scan a document. It prints; just won't scan.

 

Here's what I've done:

downloaded HP Color LaserJet CM1312 MFP Series Full Solution and installed. 

Run HP Print & Scan Doctor - it says scanning software can't be found.

downloaded HP Universal Print Driver for Windows PCL6 and installed

Run HP Print & Scan Doctor - it says scanning software can't be found.

Downloaded & installed HP Universal Print Driver for Windows PostScript

Run HP Print & Scan Doctor - it says scanning software can't be found.

 Downloaded HP Universal Print Driver for Windows PCL5

Run HP Print & Scan Doctor - it says scanning software can't be found.

Unplugged printer and rebooted computer multiple times as instructed by the P&SD; also unplugged router

(these are the only drivers for the CM 1312nfi I can find on the HP website.

 

I am running a Lenovo touchscreen all-in-one desktop on Windows 8.1. I believe it stopped scanning when I upgraded to Windows 8.1 but it's hard to tell as I don't scan that frequently.

 

I appreciate any help - need the scanner operational!

Try to purge your machine of all the HP crud and start over again (Win7 steps):

1. Uninstall from Programs and Features all HP Products

2. Remove all pritner queues from Devices and Printes folder

3. Remove the drivers from the Devices and Pritners folder

4. Reboot

5. Delete all C:\Program\HP folders

6. Delete all C:\Program86\HP folders

7. Rerun the Full Software install (this is the only one with the scan drivers)

8. Review the installation log in C:\users\<userID>\AppData\Local\Temp (should be something like hp*.log)

 

OS Upgrades have never worked with printer installations.  You need to make sure you clean up the crud and start over as fresh as you can.  Installing UPDs will not impact your scanner, they are print drivers only.  You need either the Full software solution from HP or go through MS updates to get the HP Scan driver installed.
