I am experiencing the following issue and hope that someone in the forum as an idea / suggestion.
When I have the screen connected via via display port cable with the docking station and I have my laptop docked, I dont get any signal and the screen keeps black. This is independent of the Operating System - I used Windows 7, Windows 8.
When my laptop is docked but I attach the display port cable directly to the laptop it works without any problem.
I have also realized that with other displays 23'' or 24'' the setup with the docking station works without a problem.
So it has to be a cominbination between UltraSlim Docking Station and ZR2740w screen.
Any advise what else should be tried?

This issue can be resolved by replacing the Display Port Cable.
Please contact HP technicial Support at 1-800-334-5144 so they can replace the cable for you.

Do you think it is a general Display Port Cable or just with the one delivered as part of the screen? I have tried today another "Display Port Cable" and it also didn't work.

I am having this issue as well. hp zr2740w monitor, dispalyport cable, ultra slim dock, 9470m running Win 7 64 bit enterprise. Works perfectly off the dispalyport directly on the laptop - just not on the dock. a 22" HP monitor with displayport worked as well. So at this point I am not sure if its the zr2740w has a higher power requirement or if this is a bios issue or a displayport driver that is not passing the signal through to the monitor through the dock.
I replaced the dock and the dispalyport cable. I have even tried a new monitor. HP support suggested I get an active DVI adapter - which defeats the whole purpose - plus its another $140. Last resort is they want me to ship the laptop back. So I had my HP rep in yesterday and he put his 9470m on my dock and id did't work either. So its not my laptop.
HP needs to address this.

I have the same problem. HP Tech support has confirmed that there is an issue with this monitor firmware and they are working on the fix for it.

HP support sent me a replacement DisplayPort Cable but it did not work.
They stated that this part was needed.
729896-001 SPS-ASSY Cable DP with AUX-N pull-up
I have no idea what is different with that cable from the one that shipped with the monitor.
The docking station display port works just fine with an Active Dual DVI adapter and Dual DVI cable (green ends). My guess is that it gets additional power from the docking station that must be necessary to drive the higher 2560x1600 resolution of this great monitor.
All DisplayPort cables that I have tested work just fine on the laptops DisplayPort but not through the dock. It is as if it is not getting the "dual dvi" signal over the DisplayPort cabl on the dock to support that resolution or the dock does not have enough power. I have also tried more powerful power supplies, different docs, and all available firmware.
Please advise if anyone has an idea or a fix for this.

Same here, experience this on both folio 9470m docking and also 2170p docking Displayport. When check in windows screen resolution manager, the monitor does detected but just no image.
What i suspect is that because ZR2470w monitor have a high 2560 x 1440 @ 60MHz resolution, it is the docking station DP not able to drive up to this resolution hence causes the blank screen. The other possibilties could be as mentioned above, the docking doesn't provide enough power to the monitor but it is not likely IMO.
This issue have happend for months and no resolution on the firmware fix, what a disappointment.

It is somehow not understandable why a brandnew system + docking station is not capable of using an external display as it should.
Connected today a Lenovo X1 Carbon with the docking station to the screen and it worked without a problem.
Would be appreciated to get an answer from HP if and by when they want to fix it.

Here is the latest on this issue.
The problem is with the monitor and it need a firmware update which is currntly under development.
If you wish to have a solution now please contact HP support at 1-800-334-5144.
The Workstation Monitor support agents know the exact procedure to get your issue fixed.

I followed your advice and called HP Support - the monitor support agent didn't know about the issue and could not help to ressolve it.
Can you please post the workaround / solution the agent should know?

Same issue here, did receive a new display port cable, but it did not solve the problem.
Waiting for additional solutions from our sales rep.
Would be interested in receiving other advice from this board.

We have been fighting this issue for several months during our deployment of Windows 7 while refreshing our hardware. According to HP the issue is caused by the sound which is trying to pass through the display port cable. This doesn't occur on all the monitors as the 22" monitors work fine for us. The solution has been to simply use a display port to dvi cable on the primary monitor while the secondary simply runs off the VGA connection. Our HP contact said they are working on a bios update to correct this problem so hopefully it will be out soon. It would really be nice if the monitor manufacturers started providing the daisy chaining capability on their monitors so we wouldn't have to go through all these hoops for multiple monitor outputs. As a side note, these slimline docks have caused us more headaches that any of the other docks since we moved to the Elite models starting back with the 30 series laptops.

I can hereby confirm that the underlying issue is related to the DP cable.
We have finally received a third cable from HP, and this one works.
For your info, the cable part number is as follow: 729896-001.
It also has a special tag on one end indicating that side of the cable should be connected to the ZR2740w monitor.
Hope this info will help you follow-up with this issue with HP in a proactive manner.

I can confirm, that at the end the cable was replaced with the one with the part number (729896-001) and since then display is working as expected.
Took me 3 days in total to get the issue resolved and have learned my lesson for the future.

I'm having the exact same problem, and I am on the line with the HP support. They are looking up for the cable. But the representative is making a lot of checks, and it would greatly accelerate if someone could post the support case number they used when this cable was sent ?
Thanks a bunch.

I am having the very same problem, I tested with 2 diferent sets of Monitor/UB/Dock even with the leatest Bios updates. Sound doesn't work also when monitor is connected to dock's DP.
Calling HP tech support to get cable replacement. Will post my findings

Thanks for all the help folks - just spent a completely wasted call with a support rep who won't even acknowledge the cable thing. Tell me I have to try WIndows 7 or sign up for driver alerts so when a new driver appears I can upgrade. He just completely ignored the references to this thread and focused on the OS because the 2740 driver only goes up to Win 7 - despite the fact that people in this thread have proven it's a cable issue.
Spent an hour+ with someone last week who sent me a new docking station.
So let's do some math:
VGA port on dock to 2740 - works. Not the best quality but works.
Displayport on dock to other monitor - works
Displayport on dock to 2740 - does not work
Displayport on Revolv 810 to 2740 - works
Support rep's conclusion, I need to go back to Windows 7.
My conclusion? Buying this stuff was a mistake - about to be corrected.
Why is HP losing market share?
Oh I dunno - maybe because the next laptop order for us is going to be Lenovo.

I have a problem with my setup- very similar to the string here. I have two external displays- HP ZR2440w, that I'm attempting to use with the ultraslim dock and this model device. I want to use both external displays, with the view extended so I can use both vs. the image being mirrored. But I can ONLY mirror them.
Any suggestions? I'm using the HDMI-like connections for both, since there's just DVI and HDMI, no VGA on this model display. The dock has two of these connections, and I get an image on both, just not sure why I can't extend the view. I'm running WIN7 Enterprise 64 bit OS.
01-26-2014 08:10 PM
I also have an issue with only capable of mirroring the teo display ports on the Dock.
I'm using a brand new Elitebook 850 G1 with discrete grahics attached to the 2013 ultraslim dock.My goal was to use 3 22" montors natively from the dock...WHich is why I got the model with the discrete graphics card.
The monitor plugged into the vgs always works as it is suppose to in any configuration. No matter what I do I cannot get the montors plugged into the two display ports to show up as seperate monitors in any combination. In windows it only shows up as one montor yet image is cloned. One interesting thin is I can set the resolution of this "monotor" to 3840x1080 which extends the resolution across both monitors which is horrible to use and aspect ration seems off aswell.
no documentation anywhere saying what can or is supported on the laptop or dock or combination....even called HP rep at distribution he could not confirm anything..... last time I try to do all the work and figure it out by my self of what will work from HP ....(and I'm a partner)
I should have stuck to the lenovo which confirmed it could work.

You are not alone. Same problem here (DisplayPort cable seems to be the culprit):
PC: HP EliteDesk 800 G1 TWR
Monitor: ASUS VG248
OS: Win 7, 8, or 8.1 (64 bit)
Graphics: INTEL(R) HD 4600 Onboard Graphics or HP NVIDIA GGF GT 630 2GB DP PICIe.
PC BIOS version: Makes no difference
Graphics driver versions from INTEL or NVIDIA: no difference.
DisplayPort cable used: THIS is what makes the difference.
As soon as the Windows desktop is supposed to appear after bootup, the monitor reports "DISPLAY PORT: NO SIGNAL". As long as you take any "usual" DP cable to connect the Monitor to the HP PC.
Workaround: Use the DVI input of the monitor with a DVI cable. If you want to use one of the the DisplayPort outputs of the PCs, you need an (inexpensive) DP-to-DVI adapter. It comes e.g. with the HP NVIDIA GF GT 630. This is the only way it works here (so far).
The special HP spare kit 729896-001 SPS-ASSY cable DP with AUN-N pull-up is an alternative that I have not tried myself. But I will Try it in order to avoid the DP to DVI adapter.
This is the conclusion after consulting INTEL and HP. Have not contacted ASUS yet. Maybe their monitor should get a firmware update, or they should deliver the correct DP cable with the monitor in a package. Normally the VGA248 comes with a DVI cable.

Also can anyone identify what the significance of why this cable is special? That way it doesn't need to be ordered specifically through HP. I'd like to know what the underlying feature/functionality of the cable is rather than who sells it.
