Unable to launch the Java Thick Client Application using LoadRunner.

The problem we are facing is that we are unable to launch the Java Thick Client Application using LoadRunner.

Application Target link is  - C:\****\jre\bin\javaw.exe -cp classes -Xmx500m ****.client.Client

We gave the following parameters in the respective fields as given below during recording –

Programs to Analyze : C:\****\jre\bin\javaw.exe

Program Arguments : -cp classes -Xmx500m ****.client.Client

Working Directory :  C:\****

But we are unable to launch the application. It is throwing “ Critical Error – Unable to launch Java Virtual Machine”

Suppose if we decrease the Xmx size, say from 500 to 200 (cp classes –Xmx200m ****.client.Client), then we are able to launch the initial application screen, but then the launch fails and throws “Unable to determine the full Application Path” Error.

Kindly Advise.

Also if anybody have documents on how to record java applications please share.

**** - Denotes the Client Name

Re: Unable to launch the Java Thick Client Application using LoadRunner.

ok that add some interesting information, the version 1.7 of java is oficially supported only on LoadRunner 11.52, and even on that version is well known that some applications have issues, so the first step I would like to recommend you is to downgrade to Java 1.6, It may not be the root cause, but since this is not supported is worthy to try, in the past I have seen many issue with all kind of behaviours caused all by the same compatibility problem with java 1.7.

hope this helps

We tried using LR11.52 but again we are getting the same problem - "Unable to determine full application path". We have set the Application and Loadrunner bin folder in the PATH and CLASSPATH in the SYSTEM PROPERTIES> Environment variable. Do we miss anything or is it a compatibility issue?

Re: Unable to launch the Java Thick Client Application using LoadRunner.

If you are able to launch it sounds like what is needed by the application in order to launch has been met.

Have you done a recording like this one before?

I did see you use a 32 bit OS and we are assuming 32 bit JVM.

You may want to try a different way of recording using a batch file to launch the application instead providing the information in recording options.

Re: Unable to launch the Java Thick Client Application using LoadRunner.

Thanks for reply Mario. The Application can be launched by .lnk (Shortcut File) or by .bat (Batch File). The .lnk file has the Target as C:\****\jre\bin\javaw.exe -cp classes -Xmx500m  ****.client.Client that we gave in Recording Options field. The other way is by running the batch file. LR does not support recording of batch file. So we converted the batch file to EXT file and tried to record, but again we got the same error - "Unable to determine the full application path".

Please let me know if you need any more info.

Thanks,

Avinash

Re: Unable to launch the Java Thick Client Application using LoadRunner.

When you say it doesnt support batch file, you mean you tried it and didnt work?

Re: Unable to launch the Java Thick Client Application using LoadRunner.

Yes i tried it..It gets marked in RED if we browse and select .bat file. LR accepts only EXE file in "Program to Analyze field" in the Recording box.

Re: Unable to launch the Java Thick Client Application using LoadRunner.

It colors it red if cannot find the location of batch file. Does it happen when using another protocol say winsock?
