I'm new to HP Load Runner software.
Can we use HP Load Runner for File Server performance test? For example, we would like to simulate N users file access (reads and writes) .
Thanks in advanced.

I have been in a similar situation where it was necessary to test the performance of a file server that was an integral part of an application, without going through the application itself. The goal was to properly size the file server, so it was important to test that server in isolation before testing it as part of the end-to-end application.
To do this, we used Java virtual users (from the Templates protocol bundle), and using standard Java Classes, opened an SMB connection to the file server and randomly downloaded and uploaded files from the directory used by the application server. This approach worked as we were able to simulate a very large load coming from the application, while monitoring the file server using the built in LoadRunner monitors, which allowed our Infrastructure team to assess the performance of the server and size the Production box accordingly.
Hope that helps,
