According to your 'vgdisplay' output:

>>PE Size (Mbytes) 32
>>Total PE 110703
>>Alloc PE 101224
>>Free PE 9479

You've got 9,479 free physical extents.  This equates to 303,328 MB available.

Your current /dev/relvg/rel01 logical volume is 451,520 MB in size.  If you're increasing to 501,536 MB, then that is an increase of only 50,016 MB so you should have plenty of space available.

The problem may be that this LV was set up so that it requires contiguous allocation (all extents must be grouped together).

Please post the output of:

# lvdisplay /dev/relvg/rel01

Re: lv extend not working due to extents

Hmm...Nothing special about the way the LV is set up.

Try extending the LV from the command line:

# lvextend -L 501536 /dev/relvg/rel01

If that errors, please post the entire command line and error message.

If that works you can see if you can extend the filesystem online by doing:

# fsadm -b 501536m /mountpoint

Where /mountpoint is whatever mountpoint this LV is mounted on.

Re: lv extend not working due to extents

Do you have a /etc/lvmpvg file on your system?  According to an article I found in the HP knowledge base the problem appears to be caused by the PVG-strict allocation policy, but an entry does not exist for the VG in the /etc/lvmpvg file.

If you do not have an /etc/lvmpvg, then you need to create one, or add this VG to the current one.

It should look similar to:

# cat /etc/lvmpvg
VG /dev/rel01
PVG PVG1
/dev/disk/disk219

The other option is to modify the LV so that it is not a PVG-strict allocation policy.

# lvchange -s y /dev/relvg/rel01

Then try doing your 'lvextend' again.
