Where is my /dev/ciss file?

Hi

I have an 8420 attached to an MSA1000.  I can't locate the /dev/cissx file to run sautil or saconfig? I also ran sautil with run_startup_script, with no luck.

I have been able to interrogate the MSA1000 from the O/S before.

I attach an ioscan.

Any ideas?

Regards

Re: Where is my /dev/ciss file?

You don't have a /dev/ciss file, because you don't have a smartarray controller at all.

You can manage the MSA1000 from the CLI (serial line) only.

Hope this helps!

Re: Where is my /dev/ciss file?

Hi Torsten

I was under the assumption that there was always a requirement for a RAID controller.  Otherwise, how would one interrogate the storage?

[ Edited ]

No, the MSA has own storage controllers. You connect via fibre.

As a special the windows ACU can access the MSA1000 just like a smartarray controller.

You don't have a ciss device file for any other array, right (EVA,P2000,etc)?

Just for internal smartarray controllers.

;-)

Hope this helps!

Re: Where is my /dev/ciss file?

OK, I have access to the CLI and can talk to the array now.

Thanks Torsten
