Harddisk cannot be partitioned when installing win2k3 ia64 server

Dear sir,

I want to install win2k3 ent server on a rx4640 which is a original redhat system. but partition of the harddisks would fail when using EBSU. and when using win 2k3 CD we just got a message saying "windows can't gain access to the partitions".

Would you help me on this issue?

Thanks!

Re: Harddisk cannot be partitioned when installing win2k3 ia64 server

Hi Shuwen,

what SmartSetup CD version are you using ?

Here is the latest supported one (V5.50) for the RX4640 :

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15...

Best is to make sure you disconnect the SAN part (if any) and only have the local disk subsystem present , unless you want to boot the Operating System from SAN.

If the automated menu in EBSU does not work, try the manual creation of the partitions in the EBSU menu : "Create Partitions"

If this fails, exit EBSU and go to the filesystem on the SmartSetup cd i.e. fs0:

change directory to EFI\EFI_UTILS
run diskpart
list disk
select 0 (or 1 or 2 ... depends on number of disks/luns visible)

inspect (to see the details of the current disk)

- to erase the disk which is selected, type CLEAN or CLEAN ALL

HTH

Kris

Re: Harddisk cannot be partitioned when installing win2k3 ia64 server

Hi,Kris,

Thank you for your help.

I am using smartsetup 5.50, and only local 2 LSI U320 disks. I tried both express setup and manual partitioning, all failed.

I will continue to try the other instructions you suggested, and post it here.

Thank you.

Re: Harddisk cannot be partitioned when installing win2k3 ia64 server

Hi,Kris,

I got it by cleaning the disks first, partitioning by diskpart, then formating using efifmt manually.

3ks very much.
