Backing out a patch query - steps clarification

Hi all,

MPE 6.5

Can anyone tell me how to backout a patch (NSTHDD5A) should i need to do so please ?

I will be using Patch/IX to apply, so is it as simple as......

1 - Boot to the ISL prompt
2 - UPDATE (and use the CSLT created during the Patch/IX steps)
3 - restore t;@.@.sys,@.@.telesup;show;olddate

Is it as easy as this ??

Presumably the contents of NSTHDD5A are put into @.@.SYS then ???

many thanks
Sean

Re: Backing out a patch query - steps clarification

Hi Sean,

You want to remove a patch that you have installed with Patch/iX?

For step-by-step instructions, please refer to chapter D (Backdating your System) of the 6.5 System Software Maintenance manual that is available at http://docs.hp.com/en/30216-90325/index.html.

You must use the CSLT and fullbackup tapes that are created _prior_ to the installation.

Re: Backing out a patch query - steps clarification

Hi Emile,

I have applied the patch to a test server already but i will be applying it to another server tomorrow just to practice the procedure.
I then want to back it out to prove that i am able to do this just in case i have any issues on Sunday, when i do it on the live machine.

I will print that section off and have a readup.

The patch in question is NSTHDD5A which is on my powerpatch 6.5 tape.
I have restored the Patch/iX files from the PP tape and that is now showing as being 1.09 and i then plan to select "ONLY" NSTHDD5A and apply it.

I take it that this is ok to do, ie, i can apply a single patch from a PP tape ?
It doesnt have to be a reactive patch tape does it ?

Re: Backing out a patch query - steps clarification

Hi Sean,

Yes you can apply a single patch using a Powerpatch tape with Patch/iX. You must need to "veto" all other patches which were qualified by Patch/iX. HP however recommends to apply a Powerpatch.

Re: Backing out a patch query - steps clarification

thanks again Emile.

Looking at the HPSWINFO file following applying the patch from the PP tape, i can see that it details at the bottom of the file, it lists my new patch (NSTHDD5A) but has not done anything to mark the patch NSTFDR2A that this has now been superseeded.

Can you confirm if this is this normal please ?

I have attached a file which shows the file BEFORE and AFTER the patching.

Once again, thanks for your help.

Re: Backing out a patch query - steps clarification

Hi Sean,

Yes the HPSWINFO-after is correct.

The HPSWINFO file is used to keep track of all patches that are installed on the system. It records all patches in a chronological order.
