I spent most of last week with my counterparts at ArcSight, a leading provider of security and compliance management solutions, that HP recently acquired. About a dozen people from product marketing, product management, technical marketing, and other functions huddled to talk about common use cases around universal log management.
The most exciting revelation from the discussions was that we all serve a common customer - the people in IT Operations tasked with keeping the infrastructure running. People in the Operations Bridge monitor events and often need to search and analyze system log files to identify patterns related to recurring incidents.
Here is a short solutions brief that describes how ArcSight Logger helps the IT Ops team manage vast amounts of log ....
As many readers of this blog already know, both Operations Manager and SiteScope include log file management capabilities, so ArcSight Logger’s additional functionality makes the Operations Bridge team even more productive in searching log files for recurring patterns that affect system availability and performance. Whether you collect data on your infrastructure using agents or agentless monitoring, you still need to review log files to get more granular information about past performance.
In future blog posts, we will include additional information about how ArcSight Logger complements HP’s solutions and makes our customers more productive in managing their IT infrastructure.

Peter, thanks for the post.

Session ID: 4485
Session Title: Implementing a universal log-management architecture
Session Abstract: Organizations generate billions of log events every day. Taken together, these bits of data can show where applications are failing and where threats are forming, and can verify compliance. However, most organizations have not implemented a broad log-management architecture, and they struggle to retain visibility as their IT environment evolves. This session will describe key components of a log-management strategy and platform and present real-world case studies.
