Learn how a transportation services company used Operations Center to reduce MTTR (success story)

A large transportation services company recently was challenged with slow problem resolution times, high costs managing the IT environment, and difficulties in determining the causes of outages and/or performance of IT components. They reduced their operating expenses by more than 50%, the mean time to repair IT outages (MTTR) by more than 50%, the amount of time spent diagnosing a typical IT problem by over 3 hours.  All of this was achieved by simply leveraging the capabilities of HP's Virtualization SPI.

 

 

Customer environment and challenges

 

A large transportation services company recently was challenged with slow problem resolution times, high costs managing the IT environment, and difficulties in determining the causes of outages and/or performance of IT components. They were monitoring over 10,000 infrastructure components, some of which were network devices and virtualized machines.  In order to solve their problems, they started using the HP Virtualization Smart Plug-in for Operations Manager from HP’s Operations Center product line.

 

 

How HP Software helped

 

By using this SPI, they reduced IT management costs, increased the availability of their business services, and lowered the number of escalations from NOC Ops (Tier 1) to Tier 2 /3 support.   Numbers tell it all:  They reduced:

 

  • their operating expenses by more than 50%
  • the mean time to repair IT outages (MTTR) by more than 50%
  • the amount of time spent diagnosing a typical IT problem by over 3 hours

The overall impression of the HP Operations Center products they used? Their IT Manager said:

 

“We did not have to increase our staff and instead improved our processes. We have also increased our MTTR by opening over 50% more proactive tickets and that provides a jump on repair time. It is a great product line and we are still gaining value every day.”
