HP Discover: Operations Center Roadmap session - Day 4
In spite of a very full appointment calendar, I made time to attend three sessions (other than the one on virtualization and cloud, where I was the presenter). This post is on the Operations Center Roadmap session.
The Operations Center Roadmap presentation, delivered by my friend and colleague Bettina Hellinga, is always one of the most highly anticipated sessions of the show. It is one of the few times where we discuss the product direction in a public (or semi-public) format.
She discussed the Operations Center portfolio in two parts: system management (Operations Manager, SiteScope, agents and Smart Plug-Ins) and service and operations bridge.
For the former, we continue to expand coverage to new platforms and improve the performance and scalability of the instrumentation. Product quality was no longer a topic of discussion, signaling that we have put this behind us. (In the customer meetings, round tables, and customer advisory board meetings I attended, this did not even come up, so I think we can safely say that our product management and R&D teams have fixed this.)
In the service and operations bridge section, we talked about all the innovation around Operations Manager i, Service Health Reporter, Service Health Optimizer, and a new product that we previewed in the innovation showcase on the show floor.
Unfortunately, we do not post the roadmap presentation on the HP Discover site. If you were one of the people who approached me after the session to obtain a copy to share with your management, the best way to accomplish this is to schedule a private roadmap presentation through your account manager. If you missed the session and want to see what we covered, again, ask your account manager to schedule a presentation from one of the product managers. If you do not know your HP account manager, contact me directly and I’ll find him or her for you.
As an added bonus, for attendees of this session, we distributed a free copy of our book, IT Operations Management: Managing Your IT Infrastructure in the Age of Complexity, in electronic format. We will be running a similar special promotion for readers of this blog later in June, so stay tuned.
For HP Operations Center, Peter Spielvogel.
