Financial firm increased business service availability by using Operations Center (success story)

A large enterprise financial services company was challenged with manual processes causing errors and inconsistent results.  In addition, monitoring requirements were being defined by individual IT domains.  They were monitoring anywhere from 1,000 to 5,000 infrastructure components comprising of heterogeneous servers (Linux, Windows, Unix, and virtualized), network and storage devices, databases, middleware, and packaged applications.  In order to solve their problems, they started using HP Operations Manager, Smart Plug-Ins or SPIs, and SiteScope from HP’s Operations Center product line.


By using these products, this company reduced IT management costs, increased the availability of their business services, and increased collaboration among different IT groups.   Numbers tell it all:  They reduced:


  • their operating expenses by 10% to 20%
  • their downtime costs by 20% to 30%
  • the mean time to repair IT outages (MTTR) by 30% to 40%
  • the amount of time spent diagnosing a typical IT problem by approximately 10 minutes

The overall impression of the HP Operations Center products they used? Their IT Vice President said:


“HP Operations Center provides proactive monitoring of critical applications. It has aided in reducing client facing issues from 3 or 4 per month to less than 1 a month.”
