HP is excited to release the HP Virtual Integrated Archive Platform

By Gagan Bhatia - Technical Product Marketing, HP Software.

It’s an exciting time for HP as we launch the Virtual Integrated Archive Platform (Virtual IAP). If you are not familiar with the HP Integrated Archive Platform (HP IAP), it is a comprehensive information archiving solution with built-in security, flexible retention policies, and rapid search capabilities facilitating e-discovery and regulatory compliance.

A centrally managed all-in-one solution, HP IAP captures, stores, and indexes emails and files in a secure repository. Its unique Smartcell technology, which is a self-contained disk-based data repository, in a grid architecture, delivers superior performance and scalability for high-speed search, retrieval and ingestion. Until now, HP IAP has been available as an appliance, which combines “best-of-breed” HP hardware, software and storage to provide high scalability, high performance and simple deployment for large enterprise customers.

With Virtual IAP, we bring another implementation of IAP. This new offering provides the capabilities of IAP in a virtual environment. It is a low-entry-point solution for midsize organizations with limited data center and server resources, and fewer resources to manage the IT infrastructure. The Virtual IAP is hardware and storage agnostic, enabling your organization to leverage its existing hardware and storage investments.

Here are some of the key benefits provided by the HP IAP virtual solution:

Greater data archiving flexibility at lower cost

With HP Virtual IAP, your organization can cut costs while deploying an archiving solution and comply with IT regulatory standards. The solution integrates with any direct-attached storage (DAS) and storage area network (SAN) systems, providing flexibility and choice for your archive storage. The reduced data center footprint with virtual servers provides better space utilization and lower power, cooling and hardware maintenance costs.

HP Virtual IAP:

  • Reduces hardware resources and enables greater internal testing flexibility
  • Simplifies migration and hardware refreshes. With VMware’s migration tool, vMotion, virtual servers can be easily and quickly migrated to newer high performing systems, minimizing production downtime while improving productivity
  • Integrates with existing backup and disaster recovery systems and decreases additional investment in backup solutions and management
  • Can run on a single physical host or multiple hosts while still meeting scalability, performance and compliance needs

Security, compliance and e-discovery

HP Virtual IAP’s all-in-one functionality includes security, compliance and e-discovery features, providing enterprise-class archiving in a single, easy-to-use virtual appliance.

With HP Virtual IAP, you can:

  • Leverage the grid design and distributed indexing of IAP for rapid search responses
  • Implement policy-based retention, audit, automatic data expiration and legal hold features that enable you to meet governance and compliance requirements
  • Integrate with Clearwell Systems’ legal analytics tool to provide end-to-end e-discovery support, from identification and collection through review and production, reducing the overall cost and duration of the e-discovery process

Improved productivity through an easily searchable archive

HP Virtual IAP enables you to harvest the value of your critical information by capturing data from heterogeneous environments and storing it in a single, secure, tamper-proof and easily accessible archive.

HP Virtual IAP:

  • Supports capture, storing and indexing of data from Microsoft Exchange and IBM Lotus Domino, providing a highly scalable mailbox management solution that removes user mailbox quotas and the need for PST and NSF files
  • Provides an easy-to-navigate, web-based interface for searching data stored in the archive
  • Supports multiple types of queries, including phrase, Boolean, proximity and wild-card, for rapid access to the most relevant hits
  • Integrates with native Microsoft and IBM Domino search interfaces, enabling users to search the archive directly from email client applications

Simplified deployment and management

By leveraging a virtual environment, you can improve efficiencies through deployment flexibility and easy setup, installation and management. Additionally, leveraging industry-standard and familiar tools provided by hypervisors simplifies configuration, deployment and management. HP Virtual IAP comes with pre-built virtual servers and configuration scripts, minimizing the services requirements and ramp-up time.

While the volume of information and IT budget constraints continue to increase, you need to manage this business and IT challenge with an archiving solution that can grow with your organization without costing a fortune. Virtualization is becoming a preferred application solution as it offers flexibility, significant cost savings, and simplified management.

Ultimately, HP Virtual IAP enables you to leverage existing infrastructure investments, cost effectively scale without compromising performance, meet regulatory and compliance requirements, and easily respond to legal requests. A key component of the HP Information Management portfolio, HP Virtual Integrated Archive Platform delivers business and IT benefits, helping you to simplify the management and governance of enterprise-wide information.
