With the Cloud Billing Package V1, HP Asset Manager drives IT out of the fog into the Cloud!

Here is the age of Hybrid IT. The IT organization delivers services to its end users... using an infrastructure that can be owned by the IT, or fulfilled over the cloud. Managing IT as a P&L is the best way to prove its value to the other businesses while optimizing the costs for delivering the services.

Asset Manager has the foundations for supporting successfully the IT in delivering the services in an hybrid world (see Asset Manager in the Cloud recent post): Business Services cost management, catalogs management, contract  and vendor performance management, charge back...

The first Cloud Billing Package brings additional components that create an out of the box experience for managing user's subscriptions and automating the billing process for active subscriptions.

The package extends Asset Manager IT Financial Management capabilities for the management of internal and external cloud services subscriptions:

  • Extension of catalogs to better managed service subscriptions, based on fixed monthly or usage based prices
  • Management of users’ subscriptions to services (request, management of subscriptions life cycle)
  • Management of the billing for active subscriptions (charge back rule), based on fixed and variable prices
  • Reporting on the “bills”
  • Out of the box external cloud services providers catalogs (SalesForce.com and Office 365)

This package takes Asset Manager the next step in Cloud Services Financial Management. It also enables the integration with HP CSA (Cloud Services Automation) that will come with V2.

This is the first time a content package brings database and screens extensions through an installer. This re-uses the approach of dev to production customization automation white paper (also called patch management) delivered with Asset Manager 9.30. The technique has been enhanced and this is a real technical evolution for Asset Manager in the ability to provide value out of releases!

Next steps: provide integration to HP Cloud Services Automation and expand the number of external cloud services providers catalogs and provide integrations to import usage data that will be re-used for the billing.

With the Cloud Billing Package V1, Asset Manager takes IT out of the fog into the Cloud!
