UCMDB and Service Manager Comnmunities Unite!

 Most everyone were Service Manager and/or  Asset Manager users, and most everyone was interested in UCDMB, DMS, and DDM.  Everyone was interested in how UCMDB andService Manager can work best together.    The range of detail was incredible.  Lot of interesting perspectives on how configuration management, discovery, service management, asset management, and change management could/should work together.    It's really a bit more than I can go into here.


My point:  The vibe there was a lot like it was in the Practitioner's forum.  "That thing rocks!" as my friend Mike quipped once.  There HP was, listening to customers and helping practitioners interact with one another, capturing knowledge sharing all the while.  Sound familiar?  We were exercising the Power of Community!


We're really tring to bring two communities together, the Service Manager and the UCMDB/CMS communities.  There is a lot to talk about.  UCMDB/SM integration is one of the lynchpins of the CMS value chain, and integral to use cases like CLIP, CCRM, and many other use cases where SM and Change Management benefits from a common view of businss services and real-time operational business context.


I encourage all of you to use local user groups as a way to benefit your professional life, both in the immediate as well as the long term.  You can use these kinds of interaction to solve real, current problems, make faster time on your projects, and shortern learning curves.  You get to help generate best practices.  You get to reinforce your mastery of subjects by passing on knowedge to others, including the next generation of practitioners.  These are all very good things to do professionally, no matter what your speciality is.  And let me tell you, it works for ITIL and ITSM!
