Improve visibility into IBM mainframe environment using HP DDMA, UCMDB and EView/390z Discovery

Visibility into IT is no longer an IT thing. It’s a business thing. Accurate, up-to-date, easily accessible insight into the inner workings of the IT environment yields improvements across a wide range of IT functions that have a direct impact on business success.

Without the complete visibility into the IT environment, especially when mission critical applications are deployed in legacy environments like the one based on IBM mainframe (z/OS ), business may not be optimizing the value that IT can bring to the business.

HP Discovery and Dependency Mapping Advanced Edition (DDMA) software provides this visibility into IT by automatically and continuously mapping IT applications and infrastructure elements and generating top-down and bottom-up views of the relationships between IT elements and business services. It also generates an automated, continuously updated map showing both elements and relationships and populates this data into the HP Universal CMDB (UCMDB). HP DDMA and UCMDB are the two key components of HP’s Configuration Management System (CMS) that closely aligns with the ITIL v3 CMS definition: tools for collecting, storing, managing, updating and presenting data about all Configuration Items and their Relationships.

This week HP and EView technology are announcing a new IBM mainframe-z/OS environment discovery offering, EView/390z Discovery, by extending the HP DDMA software, at the HP Software Universe, Barcelona.  EView/390z Discovery along with the HP DDMA Mainframe Content Pack enables IT organizations to quickly and easily build an inventory of critical physical and logical entities, and the very important interrelationships between these entities.  This capability enables IT staff to optimize assets and enforce compliance, and provides a cost-effective way to harness the power of the mainframe as a crucial part of a comprehensive Enterprise IT management strategy.

EView mainframe technology has been successfully deployed in hundreds of customers in over 30 countries worldwide . EView Technology has been a key partner with HP Software when it comes to managing and integrating the IBM server environments into the HP Software portfolio. For over a decade EView has provided HP Software the critical mainframe (zSeries) and AS/400 (iSeries) knowledge, expertise, and solutions which are seamlessly integrated into the HP Software solutions.

The discovered information includes:  LPAR and Operating System, DB2 subsystems, CICS regions, IMS subsystems, Sysplex, Network Information, Installed software, and MQ Subsystems.  The highly flexible auto-discovery enables the HP UCMDB to maintain the most precise and current configuration data, providing the enterprise a single point of accuracy for the mainframe data.

The DDMA content pack that integrates with EView/390z Discovery will be available at HP Live Network for early access by customers in early December 2010. This new content pack will be generally available within 3 months after the availability for early access.
