If content is king, then HP Live Network (HPLN) is the royal messenger

Inspiring and managing innovation in the enterprise software space is a familiar and essential task for both software companies and IT managers. One question that often arises for our customers is, “How can we maximize the value of our IT software?”

As HP product teams work hard to deliver enhanced features, functionality, and security for their software products, customers continue to demand the most up to date and complete products possible. In fact, we find that some customers are so dedicated to improving the capabilities of their HP products, that they will often develop their own product specific extensions such as drivers, network spies, and many others, before they are released by HP. From this trend, we see a great deal of potential for partnering with our customers to inspire innovative thinking that can benefit everyone. As the Product Manager for HP Live Network, I am tasked with managing, improving, and evangelizing HP’s technology that can help to make this all happen.

For those unfamiliar with HP Live Network (aka BSA Essentials Network or HPLN), it is the content delivery and management platform for many of HP Software’s products, including Server Automation, Network Automation, Client Automation, Operations Orchestration, Storage Essentials, BSA Essentials, BSA Security and Compliance Subscription Services, Configuration Management System, Asset Manager, Discovery & Dependency Mapping, Service Manager, and more coming onboard constantly. HPLN is made up of several components, but at its core, it allows customers to access free and premium product content either through a web portal (for manual downloads) or through the Live Network Connector, which delivers content automatically into products. HPLN is available to customers with current product support contracts and HP Passport accounts.

While the delivery capabilities have always been important for allowing our customers access to the latest content, an ongoing focus  is to faciliate growing the amount of content available, especially coming from our partners and customers. Currently, HP product teams create and distribute free as well as fee based premium content, and customers have the option of participating in projects to distribute their own free, unsupported content creations. To generate additional incentives for customers to participate, we are pursuing hosting and managing premium, paid content from our partners and customers. Other companies such as Salesforce and even Apple have proven that this model is not only popular, but it is an effective method of rousing creativity and innovation. Our goal is to adapt this model to break new grounds in the enterprise IT software space.

HP Live Network is the perfect candidate to lead our charge into community-driven content. We already have a proven management and delivery framework, we have deep relationships with multiple product teams, and over 5,000 customers already use the portal and/or Live Network Connector. To embrace our goals, we are also continuing to improve HPLN’s content-related features, such as the ability to rate, provide feedback, and more easily and intelligently search and sort available content.

We are excited about our future improvements in key areas, as well as thepossibilities for community-driven content, and hope that you will join us on the journey to realizing our goal of providing the best experience for our loyal customers.
