The link to the graphics adapter mentioned in this thread is not active. Do you know where I can find the XP Driver for the graphics adapter for HP a1710n?

Thanks

Re: XP drivers for Pavilion a1710n

Hey all I ran across this on Google, and I need help with one problem. I downloaded the chipset drivers and one device still remains 'unknown'. Its called PCI Simple Communications Controller in computer manager. This is a problem because my wifi card is on it and its not even being detected, regardless of the fact that i installed the drivers for the wifi card. So i think the problem lies with the PCI port itself. Is there a seperate driver for it? Everything else works fine, and my graphics card works but its PCI-e, so I am confused as to whats going on. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Re: XP drivers for Pavilion a1710n

Hi,

In answer to the last recent post on this thread: Usually a PCI Simple Communications Controller is refering to a dialup modem, which has it's own driver apart from the motherboard drivers. Quite often, an after market modem has been added to replace one damaged by storms, and it appears in Device Manager as having no driver after installing the main set of drivers. Just a thought.

Re: XP drivers for Pavilion a1710n

So you have loaded the GeForce 6150SE/LE driver indicated? Do you have problems with the other resolutions? Have you tried an alternate monitor? If it is a flat panel, is the refresh rate set to 75Hz? How is the system memory in the computer, the correct type and speed? I can't remember if this board has a slot for a video card, if memory serves, it had an AGP slot, can you add a video card as a workaround or just to test the funtionalilty of the rest of the system?

Re: XP drivers for Pavilion a1710n

I have loaded the GeForce 6150SE/LE driver indicated above and the 75Hz, the rest of what you suggested is over my head I'm afraid. The screen res is still blurry, I wonder if there's a driver I'm missing..

The Device Manager contains:
Network adapters: 1394 Net Adapter, 3Com EtherLink XL 10/100 PCI for Complete PC Management and NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller.

NVIDIA Network Bus Enumerator and

Other devices: SM Bus Controller with a (!)
-cannot Install this hardwere because the wizard cannot find the necessary software.. this is probably not good - how do I resolwe that problem/could this be the problem with the low res. screen?
I'd appreciate any help with this. Thank you, I really don't know what to do from here.

Re: XP drivers for Pavilion a1710n

The SM Bus Controller message usually indicates that you are missing your motherboard chipset driver. This is a driver that enables all of the features of the chipset, including AGP support, USB, network adapter, etc., and will likely cleanup the message about the SM Bus Controller.

It is hard to keep track of your problems when you are using different threads. Please try to have one thread with all of your issues_such as the one you originated with your model.

Cheryl: Thanks and sorry for if I confused you all. I have installed the drivers from the "updated list" of drivers for XP but I have still the same problems with the resolution.

Glen: How/can I find my your motherboard chipset driver?

Thanks for all your help. I'd appreciate it very much if you have any other suggestions for the low res problem so I can resolve this, hopefully.
thanks again,

Re: XP drivers for Pavilion a1710n

If your Sm Bus error is gone, you don't need another Chipset driver.

You may be able to find a better suited graphics driver though. Go to Nvidia and choose Option 2 and let it scan your machine to suggest best driver:

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index5.aspx?lang=en-us

You can do the motherboard scan as well if needed, but do the graphic scan.

Re: XP drivers for Pavilion a1710n

Still having a low res screen, have done the suggested:

Nvidia/Option 2/scan machine/suggest best driver: (http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index5.aspx?lang=en-us) I have installed this driver but it didn't help.

I still have the sm Bus error,is that critical? were can I find another Chipset driver?

Were can I find/do the motherboard scan?

Thank you very much for all your help.

Re: XP drivers for Pavilion a1710n

I didn't have a lowscreen problem vith Vista, (everything worked fine exept some other issues) so something must have gone wrong when instlling XP - and I'm not a computer expert I'm afraid, so I have no idea were to start troubleshooting...

Thanks again, I'd appreciate any help with this..
