Is there a driver for the HP Multimedia Keyboard (P/N 5183-9980) that works with XP?
This is the PS/2 keyboard that came with an HP Pavilion 8575C that I am upgrading from Windows 98 to XP.
The driver on HP's website (SP23913.exe) does NOT work.
BTW, I posted this same question on the Windows XP forum on 10/19/03 but didn't recieve any responses so I thought I would take a second shot on this forum My apoligies for the duplication.

Edward, you downloaded the wrong driver. That one is for Media Center PCs. The driver Bill suggested is the XP driver for all One-Touch Multimedia and Internet keyboards so it should be the correct one for you.
When you search for drivers from HP use the Pavilion model number. The link to the keyboard driver is on this page:
http://h20015.www2.hp.com/hub_search/document.jhtm l?lc=en&docName=bph06267&prodId=hppavilion18975&cc ...
A link on how to configure the buttons is farther down the page.

Bill/Ralph,
Thank you for the responses. I apologize but Iâ m not sure now where I ever came up with the number SP23913.exe. It was apparently the second drive I tried and I got it either from the HP site or from a driver site. (Iâ ve tried several times to get back to HPâ s page for this driver again but it now just gives the message â Unavailableâ ).
Anyway, my first attempt WAS with the MMKbd_1020 driver you both suggested. The symptoms were as I described above. Just to be certain, I reinstalled MMKbd_1020 again last night and the got same results (95 to 99% CPU utilization).
So, Iâ m still looking to find a driver that will work w

Hmmm, that driver has always worked fine here .. no CPU usage issue.
The driver installation has to be clean, meaning that no other keyboard drivers should be present before you install it. Old or incorrect version files can remain on the system causing the driver to be corrupt. All I can suggest is that you uninstall all the keyboard drivers from the system (Add-Remove Programs and Device Manager, delete folders related to the keyboard driver/files). Reboot letting Windows redetect the keyboard and then try re-installing the 1020 driver again.
There was another keyboard driver for XP... (XP in the filename) I think it was issued slightly earlier... I didn't come across a link for it but I probably still have the file saved somewhere.

I'm also looking for driver for the keyboard 5183-9980. I don't remember the HP model number. This keyboard is so much better than the one that came with my new Compac Presario PC SR5027CL that I've been using it. The basic functions work, but none of the specialty buttons & dial at the top/side do. My OS is Vista Home Premium.

I have 2 old win98se HP PC's that were converted to XP.
This works for most HP keyboards.
.net 1.1 (for keyboard)

Original HP Multimedia Keyboard/Mouse Drivers

Conexant Systems PCI Soft Modem Driver

Load the .net software first.
