HP Pavilion 512n Audio

Do the audio adapters that come with an HP Pavilion 512n computer support 5.1 surround sound speaker systems, satellite design?

Thanks.

Yes, you will need to get a card. You might want to consider the SoundBlaster Live! card. I prefer the the SoundBlaster Audigy, but they're twice the price. Turtle Beach Santa Cruz cards are also good. Lately, Philips has put out a decent card that was a bargain, last I saw.

Yes. That is a pretty good card and it supports 5.1.

Re: HP Pavilion 512n Audio

5.1 audio is a significant upgrade that wouldn't be present in an ordinary PC. It would be an upgrade card and it requires a card with usually at least 5 jacks on it. There's line in, mic in, front out, rear out and sub. Your spec's don't say anything out such features. You have what is listed as AC97 audio and 2 Polk speakers.

Re: HP Pavilion 512n Audio

I have installed the sound card and connected the speakers. When I attempted to play something, all I get is a loud dulling sound, where you can barely hear the music over it. I have played with all the settings but nothing fix the problem.

The speakers do work though, I did try them from a portable cd player, and they worked just fine. So, it is the sound card. Any help would be nice. Thanks.

Re: HP Pavilion 512n Audio

Try the speakers that came with the computer. Plug them in the new sound card's analog out and see how it goes.

Re: HP Pavilion 512n Audio

Then apparently your card is causing a conflict. Try removing the card and all the aoftware. Then disable the onboard audio in Device Manager before installing the card again. When you install the card, be sure you avoid anything that might produce digital output. You want analog.

Re: HP Pavilion 512n Audio

Ok, I have gottom the front 2 speakers to work and the sub. But, the back to speakers and the center one don't work. They all work in a sound test, but not when playing music or games.

Re: HP Pavilion 512n Audio

Then it's now narrowed down to your audio settings in your Creative software. I may not be able to help you there. Creative certainly could. You might want to look in your Programs menu for a Creative menu and within that an Audigy menu. There are probably some surround mixer controls that will allow you to enable the rear speakers.

Re: HP Pavilion 512n Audio

I have gotton them all to work. The front 2 work perfectly, the bass works perfectly, the center front im not too sure about, but it seems to be good also. The two back ones work, but arent as loud as the front ones, they also have a little static where there front ones don't. I have tried every setting trying to get the back ones perfect, but no luck yet.

Re: HP Pavilion 512n Audio

You may want to test the Rear Out jack with the original computer speakers and then test the front jack with the same speakers, to see if it's the card or the speakers.
