Temperature & Power monitoring on Alpha&Integrity

Hello, All!

Is there a way to get an information about the power consuming and temperature from VMS or any external application forЖ GS-1280, GS-80, rx7640 & rx8640 ?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Temperature & Power monitoring on Alpha&Integrity

Ruslan,

   I don't think there's anything that will give you power consumption from inside OpenVMS. You could do this using an external monitor, for example the EnviR Energy Monitor. It's designed to be used in a power board, but if you were able to get one of the CT clamps around the phase wire into the power supply there's no reason you couldn't track the power consumption of an individual system or whole rack. Hook up a "SmartNowBrain" device, to track up to 10 sensors and upload the data to the cloud.

  For temperature, there is (was?) a $GETSYI item code TEMPERATURE_VECTOR which returned temperature readings from different components. This isn't implemented on all systems. I'm not sure if it works on Itanium. From DCL use:

v=f$getsyi("temperature_vector")

on hardware platforms where it works, the result is a hex string of 2 byte temperature values. If it works on your system, mapping them to physical devices left as an exercise (Google is your friend).

Here's an example from a DS10 showing the temperature of the only CPU (low 2 bytes)

$ write sys$output f$getsyi("temperature_vector")
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF1D

EnviR Reference: http://www.smartnow.com.au/products/ (disclaimer, I have no affiliation with this company. I'm not even a user of their products, though I do know of a few happy customers)

Thanks for the answer!

VMS 8.4:

SYSMAN> do write sys$output f$getsyi("temperature_vector")
%SYSMAN-I-OUTPUT, command execution on node rx8640

Re: Temperature & Power monitoring on Alpha&Integrity

The Integrity boxes appear to have iLO2 management; it would be worth checking what you can get out of that. I know you can get temperatures out of an rx2660 via IMPI.
