RX2800, OpenVMS 8-4 and Update 0600 - USB DecWindows keyboard stops working

Hi folks,

Here's another interesting one. I upgrade an RX2800 from UPDATE0500 to UPDATE0600. Prior to the upgrade the USB keyboard and mouse which were connected and used to log on to the system via DecWIndows worked perfectly. The keyboard does work at the console level.

After the upgrade the keyboard no longer work. Other than raising a case with HP, anyone any thoughts on how to diagnose this?

cheers

Brian

Re: RX2800, OpenVMS 8-4 and Update 0600 - USB DecWindows keyboard stops working

You could manually back out (just) the USB pieces of UPDATE V6 (to an earlier UPDATE or to the base-release pieces) and see if it works, but it'd be easier to either roll back the whole thing to UPDATE V5 (assuming that works here), or ring up HP support and see if they have a side patch or remedial sequence for this stuff.  You could also hook up a console serial line while you're waiting for a response from HP, if what you're doing here is "box management" and not graphics-based applications.

The abysmal UI of Integrity EFI can also be sensitive to having the console device settings configured correctly for the particular configuration.

But the short answer is: call HP support.  If UPDATE V6 is broken, then either HP already knows, or you'll need to tell them it's broken, or there's something wonky with your local configuration.

I'd probably swap for a different USB keyboard and swap the current keyboard to another box, too, as that'll mean you have a quick answer immediately ready if somebody at HP Support happens to wonder if the keyboard just happened to pick the moment of the UPDATE V6 upgrade to fail.

Thanks Hoff,

The EFI is not fun, it seems designed to make life as difficult as possible.

I'll raise this with HP and see how we get on.

For all who care: HP have created a new version of SYS$HUBDRIVER which fixed this problem.

Re: RX2800, OpenVMS 8-4 and Update 0600 - USB DecWindows keyboard stops working

The new version of SYS$HUBDRIVER is not incorporated in the OpenVMS I64 V8.4 UPDATE V0700 patch kit.

So the new version of SYS$HUBDRIVER must be applied again after the installation of UPDATE V0700. Otherwise keyboard and mouse will not work on the rx2800 i2 system.

Re: RX2800, OpenVMS 8-4 and Update 0600 - USB DecWindows keyboard stops working

Not sure if this is connected but on a RX2800 V8.4 update 6 could not get an LK463 keyboard to work with Motif (works OK in the console) but when use a PC style keyboard worked OK.

Need the keys on the LK463 so can anyone help, Thanks

Curiously it says the LK463 keyboard is the only officially supported one.
