MSL2024 on HP SC44GE HBA

I have a RX2660 Server with HP SC44Ge HBA and a MSL2024 Tape Library connected with an AH587a Cable. When the HBA initialises I get an error "Cannot Initialise Device". Firmware for the HBA is 01.23.43 and driver is 03.05.01.

Re: MSL2024 on HP SC44GE HBA

Do you have all of the minimum VMS driver patches installed for the HBA?

Installation Guide:

Can you run the SAS$UTIL and post the results?

Re: MSL2024 on HP SC44GE HBA

Can you also verify the HP part number on the SC44Ge HBA?

Re: MSL2024 on HP SC44GE HBA

Many thanks for your help. I am tearing my hair out on this one. I will get the information tomorrow. Don't think it's anything to do with VMS patch at the moment because the error is reported before booting VMS, but I've noted it. Your pointer to these further documents may also help. Cheers.

Re: MSL2024 on HP SC44GE HBA

There are two different controller part numbers, one for Proliant systems and one for Integrity. I'm sure you have the right one, but it's a thought.

Take a look at the MP FPL and SL logs to see if there are any other messages leading up to the device intialization error during the boot time frame.

Re: MSL2024 on HP SC44GE HBA

The Part Number for the HBA is AH303a. Where are the FPL and SL logs?

Have since discovered that, even though I get the "Cannot Initialise Device" error, When I run the relevant SYSMAN IO commands in VMS, I can see the two drives as $2$MGB devices but I cant initialise LTO tapes. Seems to be a different problem now (might need a VMS patch), although I'm still not happy about the error message.

Thanks for help so far.

Re: MSL2024 on HP SC44GE HBA

Connect to the MP and Cntl B, and login to get the MP menu. You can find the SL Event and Forward Progress Logs there.
