I've got an old one of these which I dont use anymore.
I found out ages ago that slot you are talking about is actually an unwired / unused SIM card slot!
Yes as in a mobile phone!
Apparently HP were thinking of bringing out a version of the 5450 (and this slot is only in the 5450 AFAIK) that was also a mobile phone but never did...

I tried putting my SIM in it but nothing happens...

Thanks Mark, I was only thinking about that again yesturday so thanks for putting my mind at ease :)

Does the WiFi work on it ok as I'm still having problems with mine :(

You may be having the same problem as I had.
The Wifi chip in the 5450 only supports 802.11b which is a max of 11Mb/s. This shouldnt stop you connecting but.... It also only supports WEP encryption, if your Wifi network is using WPA or WPA2 (like mine) it wont connect.


I've now got mine permanently in its cradle and running a weather app on my desk!
