H6325 wifi, can't find web pages unless charger plugged in.

I have an HP IPAQ 6325 with built in WIFI and when I bring it home, it detects my wireless network, but when I try to browse the web on battery power, the IPAQ will give the error message "The page you are looking for cannot be found".
Then when I plug in the charger and try again, the web pages pop up without any problem.
I know this sounds bizarre, but this is what is happening.
I have re-set my cable modem and my wireless router, with no chamge.
Anyone with any ideas?
Thank you

How do you charge, through a desktop computer, or a ordinary wall charger?

Hi,
It sounds like your iPAQ is using ActiveSync to connect to the internet through the ActiveSync connection through the PC when connected. I am curious, do you have WEP or other security settings set for your wireless router? I am attaching a great guide for wireless setup for an iPAQ written by Marc Cogan that helps a lot of people correct errors when establishing a connection to a WiFi system.

Re: H6325 wifi, can't find web pages unless charger plugged in.

Hi,

Thank you for replying.

As I said, I know it sounds bizarre, but this occurs with just the battery wall charger plugged in.
I tried an identical IPAQ from the office with the same results.
"The page you are looking for cannot be found" with external battery power.
Then when the charger is plugged in, no problem surfing web pages.
The IPAQ sees and connects to my wireless network in both scenarios.

I feel like an idiot, but the results are the same all through the house.

Anything anyone can suggest is a big help.

Thanks

Re: H6325 wifi, can't find web pages unless charger plugged in.

I have the same problem with an iPAQ 6315.

I get "The page you are looking for cannot be found" whenever I connect to my access point.

I tried to change every possible configuration of my ZyXEL AP. With some configs I can connect with my iPAQ, with some other I can't. But if I'm "connected", it looks like the iPAQ can't communicate at all. It happens with every protocol I try to use...

Tomorrow I'll try with other APs at work.
Help please.

Re: H6325 wifi, can't find web pages unless charger plugged in.

As Michael said , it sounds as if the WiFi connection is not connecting properly. When you cradle the IPAQ, it uses the pass-through connection thru Activesync to connect to internet thru your PC's connection.

So basically you are not managing to connect to your wireless network.

First do a soft reset and then follow Marc Cogan's instructions in attached document.

Re: H6325 wifi, can't find web pages unless charger plugged in.

I appreciate the replys, but some of you are focusing on the cradle and activesync.

I am not using the cradle!

I am using the wall charger.

Thanks

Re: H6325 wifi, can't find web pages unless charger plugged in.

Hi,
Ok, I'm on the same page of music. The cable you are using is the one that came with your iPAQ, I assume? It should have one part of the cable going to the wall charger and another part going to your computer plugging into a USB port. Try this..connect like you have been able to with the plug connected to the wall charger. Go to the internet as you have been able to do so. Once connected to the internet on your iPAQ, unplug the part of the cable going to the USB from your computer. Are you still connected to the internet?

Re: H6325 wifi, can't find web pages unless charger plugged in.

Hi Michael,

The IPAQ is not connected to the computer in any way.

My wireless router is connected to my computer.

Pretend I am holding my IPAQ at the other end of the room. The IPAQ sees and connects to my network (wirelessly), but when I type in a web page on Internet Explorer, I get "The page you are looking for cannot be found.
Then, still across the room, if I plug in the IPAQ to the wall charger (not my computer, just the wall charger), The web pages pop up with no problem.
On battery power alone, I see and connect to the network, but no web pages.
On Wall charger power, I see and connect to the network and can bring up web pages.

It is very simple, but bizarre. How can a wall charger make the difference in being able to connect to webpages?

Thanks

I get it Denham - and I've seen this problem before - but there was no answer.

I wonder if somehow the wireless hardware doesn't get enough power on battery - but I have no real idea.

Re: H6325 wifi, can't find web pages unless charger plugged in.

Hi Laura,

I was thinking that might be the case.
I've tried another unit from the office, with the same result.

The strange part is, that I can bring up web pages on battery power at the office and in a local electronics store on their network.

I think my next step will be to brake down my wireless network and reset everything to the factory defaults and reconstruct the network again. I'm using a router that may be a bit older, but have upgraded the firmware, so it should work.
If not, I'll borrow a router from the office and try that.
I'm not an expert at all the settings, so I may still be missing something, but if it works on the charger, why won't it work on battery power alone? That is the $64,000 question...

It is not critical that I get this thing to work wireless, but now it is a challenge to find out why it won't work...lol

I thank you and the other folks for all the help so far!!

Denham
