My purpose is to use it for general aviation navigation with a navigation program that I am developing.
I try to get connection between a bluetooth GPS unit (Dell) and the iPAQ, but so far, I have failed.
Here are my actions:
1. I have started the GPS unit and made sure that it indicates bluetooh on, and fix established.
2. Start->Settings->Bluetooth->HP iPAQ Wireless->Bluetooth
3. Tap Bluetooth icon. Status changes to On. Blue LED appears.
4. Tap Bluetooth connections. Bluetooth Manager appears.
5. New->Explore a Bluetooth device. An icon with a question mark appears together with the text BT-GPS-33B912
6. I select that device -> Next. Bluetooth connection wizard appears.
7. In the security field, I uncheck "Use a secure, encrypted connection"
8. I select BT-GPS COM Port -> Next-> Finish
9. Back to Bluetooth Manager. Hold BT-GPS-33B912: BT-GPS COM Port. Menu appears.
10. Choose Properties. In the Security field, Authentication is verified to be unchecked. Default profile is checked.
11. Select OK
12. Back to Bluetooth Manager. Hold BT-GPS-33B912: BT-GPS COM Port. Menu appears.
13. Choose Connect
14. A Pop-up window appears: Bluetooth Authentication. It asks for a PIN code. After some time, a message box appears, telling that connection failed.
This i obvious, as I cannot use Authentication.
How do I get the iPAC to connect to the Bluetoot GPS?
Cheers,
Allan Emrén

This did not do any good. I found, however, that a pin code was given in a very discreet way in the GPS manual. So the first problem is solved.
Now, next problem appeared. The Dell software did not find the GPS. THe Dell GPS-finder states COM6: 4800 bps.
But the navigation program does not find the unit.

You need to pair a BT device with a pin code to be able to communicate.
And you can select to secure (encrypt) the communication channel.
Under BT servives you can select the service "Serial Port" and select Advanced settings.
Here you can set the inbound and outbound COM port numbers.
Your GPS software should use the outbound port which is COM6 by default.
I use iGO and an Adapt AD-350+ for a few years now on my 214 without much problems.

Thanks for your answer, but ...
After doing a hardware reset I've done this
Paired with PIN CODE: checked
Securing the communication channel: checked
Under BT services Serial Port select and got the Advanced settings: There shows me my IPAQ 214 inbound Com-Port 5 and outbound COM -Port 6.
This is shown with a grey background, I can tap in, I can mark the numbers _but_ I can't change it.
Is there a chance to change it, because the GPS device works very well with the Big Tower PC but on Com-Port 4 and 5.
It seems to me that this COM-Port difference is the problem, but how to solve it ?
When I connect the IPAQ with the GPS device and take a look at the status of this connection, I get under activity both (sendet and receiving) 0 bytes, No update, after 1 minute and ca. 50 seconds the connection is terminated
Thanks in advance.

I never changed these values, but I cannot change them on my device either.
They can be changed in the registry, but I am not sure if this works.
BlueTooth uses several COM ports, here is a list of known ports.
COM5 Bluetooth Inbound Serial Port
COM6 Bluetooth Outbound Serial Port
COM7 Bluetooth Serial Transport (FFUART to BT_IF)
COM8 Bluetooth Hewlett-Packard Mobile Printing
COM9
COM10
COM11 Bluetooth Dialup Networking
COM12 Bluetooth LAN Access Using PPP
COM13
COM14 Bluetooth ActiveSync Serial Port

Hello !
Thanks for the information, this will be usefull for other people.
Today I gave the devices (BT-GPS8 Jentro and my IPAQ 214) the last chance to work. Maybe in the future I will this done earlier ..... Short: It works !
What I've done:
Pairing the devices with password -->OK.
Establish a comminucation: OK (But receiving and sending bytes both show 0 bytes, no growth, after 110 seconds the connection is terminated.
Doing it again.
After that I started the program GPSPORTPPC. This program translates between COM-Port and a http-Port 127.0.0.1:20175. And when I start my navigation program (called wetravel), bind the program to this http-port, the BT connection will established again and the received bytes count will grow. The BT-connection is a long time active not only for 110 seconds.
Thank you.

The Bluetooth connection with the GPS will only become active when an application opens COM6.
Otherwise it will be idle because no application is listening and timeout after 2 minutes.
That is how the Widcomm BT stack works.
