the 56k modem is not entirely mobile, you will need to connect it to a landline and then set up your own ISP account.

you could use avantago, or if you just want to check email or general browsing a wireless connection will need to be used like bluetooth.

you can find available software at any good PDA website that can sync your hotmail inbox.

i have multiple email accounts through yahoo, hotmail and aol, and my own ISP

well i use a programme called IzyMail, it syncs all yahoo,aol and hotmail inboxes, as for your ISP, just setup a new service in your Pocket Inbox

whatever programme you use it will consume some power but to conserve power just follow a few hints on the device such as decreasing brightness or having the backlight turned off when not in use, simple things can save you a few hours of battery life.

you shouldn't avoid using programmes, thats what theyre there for. The whole reason you probably bought a PDA was to simplify you everyday life so do use programmes. Windows media player uses quite a lot but again its there for entertainment purposes.

manufacturer says 18 hours, but depends on what you do on your device
