Putting it all at your fingertips: An overview of the new IT Experts hub

Phil.jpgI am very excited to unveil the new home to the IT Experts community! It now features an easy-to-use information hub that will make it faster for you to find and share information that’s relevant to HP Software practitioners.

Why give the site a makeover? It’s been clear in the feedback we’ve received recently from our community members that we could do a better job of organizing the site’s content and offering access to all the insight and experience that HP experts and our community members alike have to offer.

Our hope is that the IT Experts community continues to be a primary destination for you to share knowledge, network with peers and get exclusive access to advice, videos, webinars, demos and discussions.

Before I walk you through some of the changes, it’s important to note that this is just the first stage of evolution for IT Experts. Over time, we will continue to roll out some new content for practitioners and make adjustments to the site.

At every step, we are eager to get your feedback. If you have any questions, comments or new ideas about the hub or anything in the community, please post them to our forum thread.

Without further ado, let me give you a personal tour!

The Hub: A new destination

The first thing you’ll notice are prominent YouTube videos, with a regularly updated playlist of the latest instructional or short “tips and tricks” demos about HP Software.

Right below the videos is a feature article module. This is where we will display a top piece of content—it could be new webinar, a must-read blog post from one of our experts, a detailed “How-To” guide, or even practical insights from a member of our community. If you have an idea, or have written or recorded something that you think would be of value to other practitioners, just let us know by email

Right column: A quick look at community activity

On the right side of the hub, we offer quick access to frequently visited and updated sections, such as our scrolling Twitter feed, links to a few of our most popular blog posts, and a list of recent discussion threads.

There is also log in access, ways to subscribe to our IT Experts eNewsletter and contact us on the forum, plus links to follow us through social media. (Please do so!)

Also on the right column, we rank the top contributors to our community. Like a small scoreboard that will updated regularly, this gives profile to those practitioners who are active in posting on the discussion forums, provide a lot of help and have been given “kudos” for their expertise.

Sections: More than just discussion forums

In the main body of the hub, there are six primary categories of content. Each link takes you to a secondary page with a full list of what’s available.

As you can see, our intent here is to provide more in the community than just discussion forums for answering immediate technical questions. We would like IT Experts to be a place to share all kinds of information, from white papers and how-to user guides to webinars and someday, technical resources like code samples.

And as I mentioned, we are open to content from community members. If you want to write some tips and tricks or record a screen capture video, just let us know. So long as it’s a good fit for fellow practitioners using HP Software, the sky’s the limit!

Now let’s dig into each section.

Articles

Here is where we gather together the best blog posts, white papers or other insights from across our community. You will be able to download these articles to read later as a PDF on your tablet, for instance, or share on social media channels.

Discussion Forums

This area of the IT Experts community is still its heart and soul, so we haven’t touched the structure—everything is where you found it before.

Blogs for IT Experts

We have reorganized our 22 blogs into seven main categories to make it easier to browse based on topics of interest, from ALM and Ops to IM and Security.

Events

The Events page features a few top on-demand webinars from HP or the independent Vivit software community to help you develop your skills and knowledge, plus a link to a full index of upcoming and archived webinars.

We have packed a lot onto this page. Here you can access:

  • Upcoming Events and Webinars

  • Documentation like HP handbooks, guides and white papers available to download in PDF format

  • The Vivit independent community of HP software users

  • Software Download Center, a treasure trove of trials and patches for nearly the entire catalogue of HP Software, with a more streamlined approach to downloading different formats

  • Training and Education Articles from HP Software Education Services, our repository of formal course offerings

  • Puzzles and Contests in our discussion forum, to offer a little levity to your professional work

  • Knowledge Base for official HP Software Support

So there you have it! Please go and explore—we hope you like what you see and that you will come back often to check out what is new on the hub. We really would love your feedback, too, so please take a moment to post any questions, comments or new ideas to our forum thread.

(You may be trying to keep the riffraff out?  ;-)

But you don't include a hyperlink to your IT Experts hub.
