Partner Certifications

In a recent survey by CompIT, 38 percent of participants stated that certification is a challenge due to the effort required to gain the necessary accreditations. 

 

However the opposite side of the coin is that as a Partner or sales representative, certifications are required to sell a vendors product; is this a double edged sword?

 

There are a number of ways to view certifications; Firstly from an individual’s perspective, would being viewed as certified to sell, support or implement a vendors products make me more effective in the role I do and increase my personal worth to either my employer or in the IT market.

 

Secondly from a vendors perspective, having specific certifications not only allows a Partner or Reseller to sell specific areas of the portfolio, it also allows the vendor to differentiate between partners who have differing skill levels.

 

Partners can then progress through the different levels of the partner program, i.e. Preferred to Specialist etc.

The progression through the partner program should in turn bring higher rewards from the vendor.

 

Therefore the question is; does the increased visibility partner differentiation, potential increase in business and improved personal worth, out way the time, effort and cost of getting certification?  I think it does..
