We have SM 7.11 patch18
Windows server 2003
I tried to apply patch 20
Patch for server applied and work.
Patch for client applied and work.
Have trouble with web tier patch.
I stoped Tomcat
I renamed sm and ess directories like sm_old and ess_old
I insert webtier.war file and rename it like sm
I started Tomcat, then stoped.
Copied old web.xml file from sm_old to sm
When i go to http://localhost/sm i see nothing (white screen), but when i go to http://localhost/sm_old - all work
I think i did not change something parametres.
Do you know what need to change else?

In some upgrades you should do more things (change of tomcat version and endorsed libs..)
Did you read carefully the chapter "web Cient" of the upgrade guide?

Regarding your 4.step: Start Tomcat / Stop Tomcat:
some times ago I made following mistake: I did not wait enough time (about 1 minute) until tomcat had decompressed all files in the new directory before stopping again. When I had stopped tomcat too early, not all files have been decompressed to folders and tomcat did'nt work. Also next start of tomcat did not complete unloading war-file
Since that time I always control via properties of explorer, if content of folder still increases.

Like wriegels said, you should give tomcat enough time to extract web.war or you can use winrar to extract to make sure. Not sure with sm 7.11, but with sm 9.3x, there were changes in the web.xml which older web.xml does not have and will ensure the web tier will not work if those lines aren't there. Do a file compare via some text editor and check if the new web tier introduces any new lines to the web.xml. Also, check the accompany release notes, if you need to do anything extra.

Can you check Tomcat logfile under Tomcat log file folder after webtier war file is extracted automatically by Tomcat?
I suggest to modify value of 'secure_login' to 'false' in the web.xml at first after a new webtier war file put on Tomcat folder.

Just double checking that the field
secureLogin and sslPort parameters. For example, set the secureLogin parameter to true (default) and sslPort to the SSL port of Tomcat
is set this way
