Re: smtp authentication error

Hi,

I would suggest to enable in scsmtp.ini  the below parameters :
sc_reconnect:1
sc_numberof_retry_connect:10
sc_reconnect_interval:30

And please monitor if the issue will reoccur

Best regards

Re: smtp authentication error

Hello,

Is this a new installation? Was this working before?

What version are you using?

Check the  your configuration as you can see from the information you pasted the authentication in required.

Alex

Re: smtp authentication error

Its new installation. HP SM version is 9.30. SCSMTP version is 1.0.2.0. I followed the steps of downloading scsmtp. updated the unzip files under RUN directory. Edited scsmtp.ini file as below.

smtpserver:10.12.12.14
server:localhost.12690
smtpport:25
smtpuser:serviceintegration@si.com
#smtp_cc:user@company.com
#smtp_bcc:user@company.com
clean:1
sleep:10
log:scsmtp.log
keepmail:0
debug:0
smtpdebug:1
smtp_reconnect:1
sc_reconnect:1
sc_numberof_retry_connect:10
sc_reconnect_interval:30
#smtp_numberof_retry_connect:10
#smtp_reconnect_interval:60
#sc_reconnect:1
#sc_numberof_retry_connect:10
#sc_reconnect_interval:60

Later tried to test the mail notification, but the error is coming as authentication failed.

Here looking to hear help from your side.

Re: smtp authentication error

Does the user that is starting the SMTP service have access to the SMTP mailbox?

If the service is being started as the user that has access to the 'serviceintegration' mailbox, then it should work correctly. However, if the user starting the SM services does not have access to that mailbox, then the authorisation will fail.

So depending on whether this is a UNIX/Linux or Windows based installation, in the former the user starting the service must have access to the mailbox, in Windows the user set to start the service must have access to that mailbox.

If this is configured correctly then I would suggest that you check the mail server logs to see what they are reporting.

Re: smtp authentication error

Hi,

Finally mail notification worked. I didnt do any configuration changes apart from initial configuration specified below

Instructions

1.       Unpack the scsmtp utility

Unpack smtp1.0.2.0.zip to ..\HP\Service Manager <version>\Server\RUN

2.       Edit the unpacked file scsmtp.ini

smtpserver:<your smtp servername or ip address>

server:localhost.12690    --> this is the portnumber where the scautolistener is running (see below).

smtpport:25

smtpuser:<smtp user name e.g. john.doe@<domainname>)

#smtp_cc:user@company.com

#smtp_bcc:user@company.com

clean:1

sleep:10

log:scsmtp.log

keepmail:0

debug:0

smtpdebug:1

smtp_reconnect:1

#smtp_numberof_retry_connect:10

#smtp_reconnect_interval:60

#sc_reconnect:1

#sc_numberof_retry_connect:10

#sc_reconnect_interval:60

3.       Edit sm.cfg (in RUN Folder) and add in the following line so that the SC Auto listener and scsmtp starts automatically when starting Service Manager;

#

# start background schedulers

#

sm system.start

sm -scautolistener:12690

scsmtp.exe

4.       Restart the HP Service Manager Service and within System Status the SCAutoListener should now be running

Navigate: Menu navigation > System status

Lines:

SCAutoListener-12690

system.start

5.       Check the scsmtp.log file in the RUN folder to check if scsmtp.exe is running

pid (2248)(3264) debug: scauto_connect to <localhost.12690>

pid (2248)(3264) debug: connected to <localhost.12690>

6.       In SM7 go to ServiceManager Mail and send a test email.

Navigate:  Menu navigation > ServiceManager mail

And Make sure that you press the 'Email' button to send it.

To check that it has been sent the scsmtp.log can be checked……… or wait for the mail to arrive;
