HP Security's chief discusses why HP ArcSight is named in leader's quadrant for 10 consecutive years

The 2013 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Security Information and Event Management has been published and HP Arcsight is in the Leaders Quadrant for the tenth consecutive year. Gartner evaluates vendors in a Magic Quadrant on two main dimensions – completeness of vision and ability to execute on that vision.

HP Arcsight continues its strong leadership on both dimensions, driving its placement as the most visionary. In 2013 Gartner ranked HP ArcSight SIEM as the most complete solution on the market. In four of the categories evaluated, we ranked first.

In three more, we ranked second. And when all eight categories are combined, we once again are first.

HP ArcSight is able to combine contextual understanding using threat analysis from Cloud applications and Big Data. By correlating usage patterns of data and sentiment analysis from social media, HP continues to be at the forefront of helping customers reach a predictive understanding of their threat landscape from both inside and outside their network.

In my interview with Art Gilliland, SVP & GM of HP Enterprise Security, he says that "As security professionals, we need to consider how the attackers think and we should design our defenses to be disruptive to their methods.  While we definitely need to asses our risk profile and invest accordingly, those investments should be targeted toward adversary disruption versus just a checkbox fulfillment of regulatory requirements or policy frameworks."

When I asked whether SIEM technology relevant to solving cyber-security issues? Art explains why SIEM is the most relevant technology in blocking and detecting threats that are near and inside your organization and quotes "Today’s blocking technology, like firewalls and upgraded antivirus software no longer get the job done. Security teams need real-time information, flexibility, responsiveness, aggregation, analysis, and compliance with regulations. Security information and event management solutions are key to staying ahead of the adversary, helping us to find them after the break in but before they have stolen information.

When I asked Art whether HP is still relevant after acquiring ArcSight and going throug building a large security portfolio? Art says that "In 2013, HP ArcSight SIEM placed at the top of the Gartner Magic Quadrant. And if you look back at the last 10 years, you’ll find that we have done the same every year. As the threat landscape has evolved, HP ArcSight SIEM continues to innovate, staying ahead of the challenge, helping to keep our HP ArcSight customers secure."

HP Arcsight has continued to optimize its solution by leveraging new data store technologies and hardware advancements. This has helped organizations gain event processing improvements of up to 2000 times over RDBMS installations, enabling them to process billions of events a day in real time.

As a part of HP, we innovate to help customers understand their risks so that they can keep their organization safe.
