The Protocol Complexity Matrix and what it means for your load testing

protocol complexity matrix.PNGThere are a few general rules that apply to protocols and load testing. One is that if you want to make the job of scripting easier, it comes at the cost of memory.

This is because using more memory makes the protocol less scalable up to the point.

Keep reading to find out how you can easily understand the relationship between memory and how many users your load generator can run.

White Paper Wednesday: LoadRunner — Mobile load performance testing

original6.jpgThe world is on the move, with a mobile device in hand. Some people say we have long ago entered the post-PC era. The rapid adoption of mobile technology is predicting smartphones usage will climb to 1.75 billion according to a recent eMarketer report, soon a third of the world will be predominately wireless.

It is no longer nice to have a mobile application, it is imperative to have a mobile application that performs well to stay relevant. We are pleased to share with you LoadRunner’s Mobile Load: Performance Testing for Mobile Applications as our topic for this week’s White Paper Wednesday.

Part 2: LoadRunner, performance testing, virtualization and HP Discover in Vegas!

original4.jpgPart 1 of this article

Innovation is alive and well at HP. After 75 years, this company still continues to push the boundaries of achievements. The best place to see this and future of technology was The Discover Zone.

The Discover Zone was full of new creative ideas, deep technical discussions and the future of technology being demonstrated in the Technology showcase. It was definitely my favorite area. I loved checking out the innovation theatre where HP paired up with Dreamworks Animation to make a living laboratory that featured “How to Train your Dragon 2” for folks to see what the next generation of filmmaking will look like.

Part 1: LoadRunner, performance testing, virtualization and HP Discover in Vegas!

original5.jpgHP Discover in Las Vegas was a whirlwind of activities and big announcements, all of which I am going to highlight for you now. When I landed in Vegas Sunday afternoon it was already 104 degrees outside and just as the finishing touches were completed. I was already feeling the rush of excitement, everywhere around me there was energy, buzz and anticipation. I looked forward to catching up with customers, friends and partners from all over the world. Something big was about to happen.

Performance and load testing dictionary of terms

original.pngHP LoadRunner captures real time end-user response times for business processes and transactions to determine whether the application can meet the required service-level agreements.

That means non-intrusive, real-time performance monitors obtain and display performance data from every tier browser, web server, application server, database, and systems component. After the load test completes, the HP LoadRunner analysis engine provides a single view of end-user, system-level, and code-level performance data. It includes a patented autocorrelation engine to scan end-user, system, and diagnostics data to provide the most likely causes of system slowdown. The data is correlated to quickly pinpoint problem areas and identify the root cause of performance bottlenecks. This helps your engineers quickly determine whether they have met their performance goals, and if not, why not and who owns the problem. No more guesswork.

White Paper Wednesday: LoadRunner — A closer look

original2.jpgThinking of trying out LoadRunner as your primary load performance testing tool, but want to know more? In this technical white paper, we answer our most commonly asked questions.

Questions like, how do you size up your system? When do you decide you need more than a manual load test? With the complexity of apps today and the technology that enables their delivery, sometimes manual testing alone is simply not an option. Learn more about how LoadRunner can ensure a stable environment for your applications.

Poll results in: “Top 5 Testing Challenges”

original3.jpgWe had a great webinar this week where we took several polls on the top 5 testing challenges for mobile, cloud, Agile, performance and Big Data; recording available here.

Because testing can be a complex topic it is no surprise several hundred applicants participated. In each “Testing Challenge” area, we shared several talking points and then took a deeper look into why that area was difficult. We suggested focus areas/changes needed to mitigate these challenges and increase the value of testing to the business and its customers.

Working with HP LoadRunner and HP Network Virtualization

02.pngHP Network Virtualization (NV) helps you test the point-to-point performance of network-deployed products under real-world conditions. You can simulate network effects such as latency, packet loss and bandwidth, allowing your test to run in an environment that closely resembles the actual deployment of your application.

This becomes even more important in the mobile world, where performance testers must take into consideration the different communication conditions which are affected by the network operators, infrastructures, etc.

Continue reading to learn about how NV integrates with HP LoadRunner to provide the complete testing experience for all network situations.
