What happens in Vegas… HP Discover and performance testing and virtualization

It was Sunday afternoon when I landed in Las Vegas. It was 104 degrees Fahrenheit outside and the last touches were being done in my favorite area of the Conference—the expo demo area (AKA the “Discover Zone”). I was so excited because I was going to be able to meet with customers, partners and friends from everywhere in the world.

Monday, Monday

On Monday, we had our “customer advisory board (CAB)”, with 15+ customers attending from different verticals (financial institutions, health care, public sector, retail and more). We had a very good conversation about the new version of LoadRunner 12 and discussed the roadmap for our HP Apps products. Besides HP LoadRunner and HP Performance Center, we added the new “virtualization line” of products in the CAB this year: HP Network Virtualization portfolio and HP Service Virtualization. This brings a complete solution for performance and load testing to you!

Customers actively provided feedback and they were very excited about future releases. Some of the hottest topics of the day were: mobile testing, cloud testing, continuous integration, Big Data, network and service virtualization.

Here it is what John McConda from Wellpoint/NGS said:

“It was an honor to be on the Customer Advisory Board with so many talented practitioners of HP tools. Getting a chance to have input directly to the product managers of tools we use every day was a rare opportunity.

HP Discover was not a typical conference. The themes presented were no less than revolutionary in terms of the way the world will use technology in the future and the hardware under the hood. It was eye-opening.”

We also had the privilege of having Teresa Lanowitz – Voke Analyst Researcher - share about testing trends and “extreme automation” during the CAB.

A good part of the CAB meeting, was when Shane Evans – HP Product Manager, let everyone be a Product Manager and for an hour. Everyone provided input as if they were the product manager for our performance testing solutions! It is a great exercise to get feedback and to understand how to prioritize the innovations coming.

If you have interest in attending the CAB in the future, you can request to your sales rep to submit your request to HP. Remember that seats are limited, so the earlier the better.

The event officially begins

June 10, Tuesday, was the day when the sessions started and the expo floor opened. This year we had various sessions called “Hands on Labs” where users can have a real experience to running our newly released Apps products and learn from the experience. Classes were maxed out!

HP President and CEO, Meg Whitman and HP executives did an incredible job opening the main session which celebrated 75 years of HP – 75 Years of Thinking, Imagining, and Inventing - Creating and how we are providing solutions for this new foundation. You can watch the presentation here.

So many sessions, my head was spinning

We had various customers presenting about mobile testing, performance testing, network and virtualization. Customers included: Darsden, Tuffs Health Care, Boeing, USAA, Experian, Hometrust, EWE, Pomeroy, CA, Capital One and various partners. These customers shared great case studies and experiences with each other. The well-known “Roundtables” and “Discussions forums” were full, with a lot of participation! We had HP RnD, professional services and product teams leading the discussions and answering questions. The “what is new for performance testing solutions” was one of the most attended sessions. Our community is one of the largest worldwide. Our own Mukulika Kapas lead various sessions and roundtables including trending for continuous integration, big data and performance testing and lab management.

“It was amazing to see even large traditional enterprises with 100s of apps embracing continuous testing” by Mukulika Kapas, HP Product Manager for HP Performance Center

It was amazing to see how many customers now are embracing mobile development and testing. I delivered some sessions regarding mobile testing and there were tons of good questions. Mobile apps are everywhere and we are launching a beta version of innovated platform. This ability is feeding my addiction for World Cup soccer (What would I do without the FIFA apps showing the World cup game scores real-time?)

HP Discover: High tech from everywhere in the world!

The Discover Zone, my favorite area, (as I mentioned before) was full of excitement! There was so much buzz around new releases to creative ideas, deep technical discussions and the future of technology being demonstrated in the Technology showcase. Also, the innovation theater brought up new stunning solutions created by HP and customers. Dreamworks Animation was present in the Discover Zone, with the movie “How to Train your Dragon 2” created and managed with HP Technologies.

The Vivit community has its presence there and had a celebration to Award to top Vivit members, which included Todd DeCapua, our new HP Sr. Product Marketing for HP Software Applications as a Champion of the Year.

For those full of questions, we had the Guru bar, where customers, partners and HP Staff hungout for questions and answers! There was also good food there as well!

“My first HP Discover as a HP PM brought new excitement as I now an integral part of the HP Software team. It was truly amazing speaking to the various other PMs, R&D, and customer attendees and hearing their commitment to each other and making a difference.” By Susan St-Clair, HP Sr. Product Manager for Network Virtualization.

HP Discover was not just one more conference; it was the time to celebrate HP’s 75 years of technology success. It was the time to bring what is next in innovation to make it matter for the new Style of IT.
