Start your mobile application testing with the discounted HP Performance Validation Suite

Last week I attended a class about Mobile application testing and learned a great deal about what needs to be tested and how, specifically from a mobile application point of view. In a matter of minutes, we were able to find all sorts of bugs in the applications. Overall, it was a real fun and empowering experience.

At one point during the class, we were given a specific exercise where we test an application with a specific persona in mind… simulating how this person would use this particular mobile application.

So, I thought about my nephew Paul, a teenager who is always out and about with his friends, doing a million things at the same time, typically through the various mobile applications on his phone. And let me tell you, it was a really different experience…conducting these tests with his persona in mind. The end result being that I found even MORE bugs and faster!!

Is testing mobile applications the same as testing web applications? It seems like it is, but it is so NOT!

It is a common misconception to assume that since mobile applications are simpler than web applications and are “smaller”, they must be simpler to test. Of course the concepts around planning and defining what to test still apply, but the variables are infinite when testing mobile; and once you bring performance into the loop, these variables increase ten-fold.

And what about the agility of mobile applications? “Mobile apps are updated typically pretty frequently”, as Malcolm Isaacs rightly points out in his blog: who’s up for some performance testing?

We need to plan for the local, functional activities that occur simultaneously on the mobile device as well as keep in mind the network conditions and the IT back end infrastructure for the application. As we know, in the real world, user behavior and even human emotions affect how the application will perform! So you see… it is seems simple but when we start talking about all these moving variables, it starts to get complex really fast.

To help you along this journey, we are starting a series of mobile application testing blogs. And to keep with the theme, I will take the time today to announce a great opportunity to get you started with your mobile performance testing as you cannot hide from this wave and its implications anymore!

Today HP is launching a time limited, bundle incentivized, mobile performance testing promotion to help you get started with this most important initiative. The promotion includes bundled options of HP LoadRunner or HP Performance Center with Shunra Network Virtualization solutions that will help you to not only performance test your mobile application but also simulate various network conditions specific for mobile applications, during the testing. Also, in case I forgot to mention, the promotion is limited for 3 months only!

In addition to that if you are going to be at HP Discover – HP’s largest conference – June 11-13 in Las Vegas, we will be offering complimentary hands-on-lab sessions to get you up to speed with some of our latest knobs and whistles in the new release, specific to mobile performance testing!

Additional Mobile testing training will be also offered at HP Discover, check this blog: Mobile Performance Testing --- Training 4 U @ HP Discover

Stay tuned as we continue to bring news about mobile application testing to your inboxes!!
