Mobile performance testing

I'm working more and more on mobile devices- smart phones, tablets, etc... Recently I drafted a white paper on a tablet, and am even writing this post on a tablet!   Mobile is here and more and more applications are going mobile.  I recently heard the CIO of T-Mobile talk about his perspective of key mobile challenges.   His list of challenges went like this:

  • Proliferation of mobile platforms
  • Security
  • UI and UI redesign---- moving desktop apps to mobile and how the interface changes
  • Off line vs connected
  • Interoperability of devices back into the enterprise

I agree with him that those are important challenges and would like to add another. These challenges all stem from an understanding that mobile applications will be used more and more and this adds another challenge mobile performance.

Mobile performance testing is important, especialy to understand and plan for the impact of mobile devices on your infrastructure.   Here's a short video that tells some of the mobile story.....

We also recent published a mobile performance testing white paper that goes into more detail about Mobile Performance Testing.

If you are working on an earlier version of LoadRunner/Performance Center and can't use Mobile TruClient ( versions 11 and on)... Then check out this recent blog post from Richard P. about performance testing against android applications using the android emulator sdk.

--> Good stuff.
