HP LoadRunner Product Manager - Introduction!

Hi everyone!

My name is Shane Evans, and I am extremely excited and fortunate to have the opportunity to be the new Product Manager for HP LoadRunner. Some of you may know me already from these forums, and from the Google group dedicated to LoadRunner. I also spend a lot of time lurking in other related forums such as Yahoo, SQAForums and others, as I find this to be one of the best ways to learn about the challenges faced by customers using the software, but also about load testing in general.

I wanted to take this opportunity to share some of my thoughts on the direction of the product and the amazing community that surrounds us with users all over the world in practically every industry;  But first, a bit about me…

I first started in IT around 1998 working as an independent consultant for some local businesses in the Metro Vancouver area, mainly handling the setup of networks and configuration of software, backups and general Y2K readiness. In 2000 I joined HSBC as a technical support analyst, and spent a year and a half supporting a large enterprise before moving into Quality Assurance where I helped introduce the organization to automated functional testing and performance testing.

In the years that followed I helped establish a Center of Excellence around test management and automation, and built a very successful team delivering performance testing services using HP LoadRunner and Performance Center.

We tested against all varieties of business application, internal and customer-facing, and built on everything from mainframe to AS/400, J2EE to .NET, and everything in between. Being part of a Shared Services Organization allowed us to work with teams from all over the globe, and help deliver some amazing solutions to very complex problems using HP Software as our primary platform.

In mid 2007 I expanded the team to include the production monitoring team and spent the next few years trying to bridge the gap between development and operations. This was successful in some areas, and not so much in others. I’ll go into that another time.

Fast forward to 2009 when I joined HP as a Solution Architect, focusing on bringing HP software and services to many customers in Canada and the US. This experience helped me to understand that the problems faced by organizations of all sizes are very similar, and that by driving our products in the right direction we can meet those needs head on and we can all be successful; which brings me to now.

From the moment I started using HP LoadRunner I knew that I could help build my career using the product, and when I joined HP I hoped that one day I would be able to help drive the direction of LoadRunner for the benefit of our customers. Which, by the way are some of the most professional, highly skilled, enthusiastic, well groomed… okay, I’ll stop ;-)

Now that I have this opportunity, I want to make sure that where we are going with the product is where you and the industry need us to be, and that we continue to serve as the market leader by delivering advanced solutions for serious performance testing professionals.
