I'm currently confused and would like to ask your guidance in selecting the ESXi image before I apply it into the current HP BL 490c G7:
After Googling around, I've come across to this page: http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/softwar
However, when I tried to download the latest image file from: https://vibsdepot.hp.com/hpq/custom/vsphere51U1
I got this error:
The requested URL /hpq/custom/vsphere51U1 was not found on this server.
Can anyone please let me know if it is possible for me to continue the upgrade for all of my Production server with the VMware ESXi 5.1 Update 1 from Vmware site or do I need to use the image from the link above ?

I would go to ESXi 5.5, not 5.1. But in any event, the latest/greatest image is the image you can build yourself. Invest the time in this...it is a good learning experience, and it will give you later VIBs (like CABs from MS Windows) than either the HP OEM ISO or the VMWare ISO will give you. You should attach (via Powershell) to the HP VIB Depot, and the VMWare VIB depot and include those latest VIBs in your image then export to ISO to boot and install.

I got the files downloaded from the official VMware website as follows:
VMware ESXi 5.1 Driver CD for Emulex OneConnect OCe11102 10GbE Adapter (Network Function)
HP Custom Image for ESXi 5.1.0 Update 1 Install CD
is this applicable for the BladeSystem as well as the Rack server (Proliant DL series) ?

Is it possible to go straight to ESXi5.5? I am planning an upgrade on HP BL 490c G7 from ESXi 5.0 and would like to go to ESXi 5.5 but everything I am reading indicates a required hop to ESXi 5.1 first. Has this been tested?
