SmartStart 8.50, BL680c G5 hanging on hardware probe

I'm attempting to boot the x64 SmartStart kit on this blade to install W2K8R2 -- and I'm getting stuck.

When booting SmartStart from a USB drive (built with the HP USB Key Utility) everything goes fairly well until it's actually probing the system and I get this text on a black screen:

Probing EDD (edd=off to disable)...

I let it sit at this point for a loooong time (at least 20 minutes) with no progress.

I tried searching for clues, and obviously there is some Linux boot flag involved? Has anyone seen this and how can I change what happens? Is there a boot config file on my USB key that I can easily modify and tell it to turn off EDD probing?

Thanks,
Robert

Re: SmartStart 8.50, BL680c G5 hanging on hardware probe

I found a workaround by poking around in the directories on the USB key. I went into all of the .cfg files and added an option edd=off to all of the boot command options.

The 3 files I changed are:

Drive:\HPSS850_64\usbmenu.cfg
Drive:\HPSS850_64\syslinux.cfg
Drive:\HPSS850_64\system\isolinux.cfg

Many thanks Robert_Boyd, this worked a treat with PSP dated Sept2013 on a bootable USB stick too!

Re: SmartStart 8.50, BL680c G5 hanging on hardware probe

i'm new in here..

i have the same issue with DL385 G7, i'm using SPP2013020B..

do i literally have to just edit the cfg files and put edd=off in the end of the file?

cause i did that and still i'm getting same result..
is there any specific location in the file where i should type edd=off??

Re: SmartStart 8.50, BL680c G5 hanging on hardware probe

New problem, new thread.

Try SPP 2013.09(B).

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
