bl460c g8 + SUSE ES 11 SP3

Hello guys!

My customer want to install SLES 11 SP3 to bl460c g8. When he do it from intelligent provision, on step there asked to insert CD1, he inserting cd with SLES-11-SP3, but server can't see it. May be it's an incorrect distributive version?

Could anyone advice which distributive to use (link)?

DVD drive is 100%working. Customer also tried to install SLES 11 SP1, but it can't discover logical disk during install.

RAID created.

Thank you!

Viktor

Re: bl460c g8 + SUSE ES 11 SP3

SLES11 SP3 wasn't available when the version of Intelligent Provisioning loaded on your ProLiant was released, so  Intelligent Provisioning doesn't recognise it as valid SLES media. A quick workaround is to just boot the SP3 media and do the installation. A future update for Intelligent Provisioning will support SP3.

SLES11 SP1 will install on Gen8, but you need to download and boot from the SLES kISO image for ProLiants Gen8. The kISO contains updated drivers requird for Gen8 systems

THis customer advisory has details for using SLES11 SP1

Correct, when customer updated Intelligent Provisioning to latest version, and SLES SP3 DVD was accepted, but installation was not able to fing logical volumes.

Is there any way to install SLES SP3 on proliant gen8?

For SP1 it's kISO image. For SP2 bootable driver kit (http://drivers.suse.com/hp/HP-ProLiant-Gen8/)

SLES11 SP3 is a supported OS for the BL460c Gen8. You say the installation cannot find any disks, was the Smart Array controller configured with an array and logical drive before the installation was started?

Yes, RAID-1 was created. But it's not visible from installation.

Re: bl460c g8 + SUSE ES 11 SP3

Just to verify the Array is working as expected, and assuming they can get a copy, I would try the HP version of ESXi 5.1.

Its only a 300MB download and I know for a fact it works under the BL460c Gen8 (no Intelligent Provisioning required)

If that installer sees the Smart Array disks (categorized as "Remote") then at least we know its a driver issue with SLES and you can just cancel the install and unmount the VMware ISO.

Re: bl460c g8 + SUSE ES 11 SP3

I've booted and started the SP3 installation on a BL460c Gen8. It identified the disk connected to the Smart Array.
