Support for iSCSI boot

Maryellen had a customer iSCSI boot question:

****************

Following is the scenario that was given to me:

. c7000 chassis

. BL465p Gen8

. Cisco Nexus Fabric Extender

. connects to Nexus 5548

. Dell Equallogic iscsi SAN

. LOM on blade

NO Virtual Connect.

Customer wants to boot the server from the SAN.

The mezzanine card will connect to the FEX in the chassis.

The onboard adapter connects to Cisco 3120 Catalyst

Is this supported?

Thank you in advance for your help with this.

Please contact me if more information is needed.

So they want to boot from iSCSI. You need to check which NIC they want to boot from (is it the FlexLOM through the Cisco 3120, or the mezzanine through the FEX ? I would guess the latter) and then check the QuickSpecs for the NIC in question to see if it supports iSCSI boot. An then check the OS they want to put on the server whether that supports iSCSI boot as well.
