World Record Performance—not once but 4 times: HP ProLiant BL660c Gen8 Server Blade

Just as we are all getting into the spirit of competition; the new HP ProLiant BL660c Gen8 Server Blade claims four #1 world records on the SPEC CPU2006 benchmark for outstanding performance. The ProLiant BL660c Gen8 is a new server blade that offers 4 socket density in half the size without compromising on performance, scalability and expandability.  Using four  Intel® Xeon® E5-4650 processors, the HP ProLiant BL660c Gen8 has achieved the #1 four-processor x86-64 SPECint_rate2006, SPECint_rate_base2006, SPECfp_rate2006, and SPECfp_rate_base2006 results, earning scores of 1230, 1180, 888, and 865  respectively. The superior results provide better or equal performance versus four-processor x86-64 competitor platforms with the same processors, proving that HP innovations and architecture combined offer unbeatable solutions for today’s data center environments.  In addition, the HP ProLiant BL660c Gen8 Server Blade provided this performance in an extremely small footprint compared to general purpose servers, taking up only a single full-height bay in the HP BladeSystem c7000 Enclosure.

So, you may be asking yourself just what is a SPEC CPU2006 benchmark and how does it help me get my work done quicker and easier. The SPEC CPU 2006 benchmark is an industry standard benchmark that is capable of being run across a very wide range of hardware and software, while showing how well a system performs in a compute-intensive environment which stresses a system’s processor, memory subsystem, and compiler.  The benchmark was developed from actual end-user applications which are compute-intensive and have very demanding integer or floating point calculations involved.  The benchmark consists of an integer (SPECint) and floating point (SPECfp) suite which run various programs that come from a wide range of real-world applications. 

For instance, the SPECint suite runs applications from areas like: data and video compression, artificial intelligence, gene sequencing, physics and quantum computing, and discrete event simulation; while the SPECfp suite runs applications from areas like: fluid dynamics, biochemistry and molecular dynamics, image rendering, weather modeling, and speech recognition.  Customers should care about a system they buy being #1 in SPEC CPU 2006 because the benchmark is an industry standard benchmark focused on providing a comparative measure of integer and/or floating point compute intensive performance that was developed from actual end-user applications.  In other words, being #1 in these benchmarks gives you absolute confidence that the performance of your applications will be the best on the BL660c Gen8.
