User-friendly interface makes HP OneView ideal for smaller data centers

Many smaller data center can realize true benefitss from great management tools.

In his recent post, Paul would like to focus on how  simplified management helps customers monitor less-complex data center environments. Designed with a consumer-inspired, user-friendly interface, HP OneView enables IT operators to deploy, migrate, troubleshoot and update infrastructure in minutes rather than hours, a big advantage when IT staff may be asked to wear many hats.

Paul recently spoke with a company that packages HP OneView with a solution for health services IT. The solution includes hardware, software and management tools to provide online backup to rack-mounted storage devices, including HP ProLiant DL380 servers and D6000 disk enclosures. The company needed a simple way for its customers to monitor the health of their systems and gain access to the management console to resolve any issues that may arise.

IT operators quickly master consumer-style tools

So what is it that makes HP OneView so accessible? To begin with, HP OneView was designed with consumer applications in mind. Modeled after consumer mapping applications, the HP OneView Map View feature, for example, gives client IT operators a familiar interface to view the health, relationships and dependencies of their entire infrastructure. They use interactive links to click down on a particular resource, with all the resources hyperlinked together.

Other user-friendly features that helped health services IT staff get up to speed quickly include

  • Smart Search, a powerful search-and-retrieval engine with a Google-like interface that treats all data as flat
  • Activity feed that interleaves the tasks and alerts that occur in the environment for simple, consolidated view
  • Action menus that host all actions for a selected resource
